SAN FRANCISCO--- Octavio Guzman's free kick from 20 yards slipped by the SF State Gators' defense with 18 minutes left in the match to give the visiting Chico State Wildcats (8-2, 6-2 CCAA) the 1-0 lead, a lead the visitors would not relinquish in their road win over the Gators.

"Our guys have nothing to be ashamed of," said SF State head coach Joe Hunter. "It came down to one strike of the ball which the Wildcats connected on." "Give Chico State credit, they are one of the top four teams in the conference right now."

Chico State held the advantage in shots attempted 14-7 and corner kicks 4-3, but each team recorded two shots on goal.

Sam Evans recorded two saves en route to the shutout for the Wildcats while Colt Reichl had two in goal for the hosts.

The first half saw 9 shot attempts with just one goal with that being by Guzman in the 24th minute which Reichl prevented from going into the goal.

SF State (3-6-1, 2-5-1 CCAA) had a chance to take the lead in the 28th minute, but Nick Harb's shot sailed wide right. The match went into halftime scoreless.

Zachary Pinnix had a chance early in the second half to give the hosts a 1-0 lead, but Evans preserved the shutout.

Then at the 72:53 mark, the Gators were called for a foul and Guzman connected on what proved to be the game-winner from 20-yards out for his first goal of the season.

SF State had two chances late in the match to tie it, but Chris Behroozian's header was stopped by Evans at the 88:19 mark. Then at the 88:54 mark, his header was blocked by Chico State's defense.

The Gators will return to the pitch this Friday, October 11 in Arcata, Calif., for a road conference match with Humboldt State at 3pm. SF State played to a 1-1 tie with the Lumberjacks earlier this season.
