SAN FRANCISCO – The visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Otters (10-5-2, 8-5-2 CCAA) were down 1-0 early in the second half, but they scored three unaswered goals including what proved to the game-winner in the 68th minute on Servano Perez's 10th goal of the season. SF State will host Cal State San Bernardino in its season home finale this Sunday, Nov. 3 at 11:30am. Prior to the match, the Gators will recognize their two seniors in Chris Behroozian and Anthony Rodriguez.
The two teams played an even first half with each team recording one shot on goal.
SF State's came off the foot of Kevin Johnson in the 25th minute as the Otters' Evan Drake recorded one of his three saves on the day.
The Otters came in the final seconds of the half as Colt Reichl stopped Alberto Anguiano's attempt to give the hosts the lead.
SF State (3-13-1, 2-12-1 CCAA) came out on fire early in the second half as they recorded two shot attempts in the first three minutes. Davis Brady recorded the first one in the 48th minute, but the Otters' defense came up big. Then 42 seconds later, Chris Behroozian's shot sailed high.
The Gators would not give up as Sam Merritt connected for his fourth goal on a breakaway after a pass from Brady in the 50th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
SF State had a chance to double its lead, but Behroozian's shot sailed high again in the 56th minute.
One minute later, Anthony Velazquez tied the match at 1-1 on a shot from 45 yards out after a pass from George Plakorus.
Behroozian had attempt to give the Gators back the lead stopped by Drake in the 65th minute and Nick Harb's shot was blocked by Cal State Monterey Bay's defense.
The Gators were called for a penalty in the 68th minute and Perez connected on the penalty kick to give the guests the 2-1 lead.
SF State had a chance to tie the match, but Drake stopped Jorge Valadas' attempt in the 76th minute.
The Otters sealed the match in the 82nd minute when Michael Brixey connected on a ball from Velazquez to increase their lead to 3-1.
