Gators Sweep Cal State L.A. (25-15, 25-18, 25-23)

Gators Finished Their 2-0 Weekend with a Three-Set Win over CSULA

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators swept the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles this evening (25-15, 25-18, 25-23) to finish of their weekend 2-0 and improve to 11-12 overall and 6-9 in the CCAA. With the win, the Gators swept the season series from Cal State L.A. as they won in five sets down in Los Angeles earlier this season.

"I am very happy with our team play this weekend," said SF State head coach Jill Muhe. "A lot of things we've been working on at practices came through this weekend."

The Gators had 11 total team blocks this evening led by Melissa Horton's 7 while Jaclyn Clark had five and Jazmine Williams added three. Clark also had 11 kills to go with her two service aces and .381 hitting percentage. Meagan Wright chipped in 11 kills while Katie Judd added 9 kills.

Three Gators had double figures in digs in Horton and Brice each with 12 and Jessica Nicerio added 10. Brice added 32 assists for her 12th double-double of the season and fourth in a row.

The Golden Eagles (14-9, 9-6 CCAA) were led by Iona Lofrano's 12 kills.

SF State started the match off on the right foot as the Gators took a 10-4 lead keyed by two service aces by Clark and one by Horton.

The Gators increased their lead to 15-6 on a hitting error by the Golden Eagles.

Cal State L.A. cut deficit to 15-11 on a Lofrano kill, but the Gators finished out the set scoring 10 of the final 14 points including the last four on three kills by Wright and the final point coming off a kill from Clark.

SF State continued the second set where it left off the first taking a 6-2 lead.

The Golden Eagles tied the match at 9-9, but the hosts increased its lead to 17-10 capped by a Clark kill.

A kill by the Golden Eagles' Bethanee Boggs cut the hosts' lead to 19-14 but the Gators finished off the set scoring six of the final 10 points to take it 25-18 and to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Cal State L.A. came out of the intermission scoring five of the set's first six points before the Gators called a time out.

SF State tied the set at 13-13 on a Katie Judd kill, but the Golden Eagles took a 17-15 lead on a Bethanee Boggs' kill.

The match went back and forth until the Gators took a 23-22 lead on a kill by Judd. An attack error by the Golden Eagles gave SF State a 24-22 lead and then Lofrano recorded a kill to cut the Gator lead to 24-23. SF State then finished out the match on a kill by Horton off an assist from Brice.

SF State will continue its three-match home stand this Wednesday, November 6 when the Gators host #14 Sonoma State in a 7pm starting conference match. The Seawolves defeated the Gators in three sets earlier this season in Rohnert Park. Prior to the match, the SF State Alumni Association is sponsoring a Food Truck with a band in front of the Main Gymnasium building.
