Gators Fall in Three to Chico State

Jacquie Brice Recorded Her 13th Double-Double of the Season
Box Score CHICO, Calif.--- One night after sweeping a CCAA match at Cal Stanislaus, it was the visiting SF State Gators being swept by the Chico State Wildcats (23-25, 18-25, 23-25) this evening at Acker Gymnasium in the Chico, Calif. Junior transfer Jacquie Brice recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 29 assists and 16 digs to lead the way for the visitors.

The Wildcats (13-12, 10-8 CCAA) had three players record double figures in kills in Alex Shurtz (13), Lindsay Quigley (10) and Kristyn Casalino (10), who also hit for a .562 percentage while Shurtz had 12 digs to go along with her 13 kills.

Jaclyn Clark had 7 kills to go along with her three service aces for SF State.

The visitors scored the first four points of the match with two coming on aces by Clark. Chico State came right back and tied the set at 5-5 on a Molly Ratto ace.

SF State retook the lead as the Gators took advantage of a hitting error by Chico State, 13-12. Katie Judd's kill gave the Gators a 15-13 lead, SF State continued to hold the, 21-10 on a Jazmine Williams kill, but the hosts retook the lead 22-21 on another ace by Ratto. A kill by Brice tied the set at 23-23, but back to back kills by Casalino and Shurtz gave the hosts the first set 25-23.

The Gators once again took an early lead in the second set, 5-2 on a Melissa Horton service ace. An attack error by the guests tied the set at 8-8. SF State came right back to take a 10-8 lead on another ace by Clark.

A kill by Katie Judd gave the Gators a 12-10 lead, but Chico State scored the next six points to take a 16-12 lead (a lead the hosts would not relinquish).

The Wildcats increased their lead to 24-15 on a kill by Natalie Nordahl. SF State scored the next three point on a Judd kill and two errors by the Wildcats, but Ellie Larronde ended the set with a kill and gave the hosts the set 25-18 as they took a 2-0 advantage in the match.

Chico State scored five of first six points of the third set. SF State cut the deficit to 6-5, but the Wildcats increased their lead to 12-8.

The set was tied at 20-20 on a Kelly Ostello kill, but back to back kills by Shurtz and Casalino gave the hosts a 22-20 lead.

The Gators would not go away as they tied the set at 22-22, but Chico State finished off the set scoring three of the final four points capped by a Larronde kill.

SF State (12-14, 7-11 CCAA) will finish off their final road trip of season next week with a pair of CCAA matches on both ends of the state. They will begin with a match this Thursday, November 14 in Pomona, Calif., against the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos at 7pm. SF State will then travel up north to Arcata, Calif., for a 7pm scheduled match with Humboldt State on Saturday, November 16. They will return home on November 22 for a 7pm starting match against Cal State East Bay.
