Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators improved to 6-0 at home with a 62-52 win over the visiting Sonoma State Seawolves this evening in a conference contest at the Swamp.
Angela Van Sickel led the way for the Gators (7-2, 3-0 CCAA) with a career high 30 points while
Lauren Varney had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
"Tonight was an outstanding effort against a quality conference opponent---as a team we have done an outstanding job in protecting our home court," said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace. "I am extremely proud of our two four-year seniors who have continued to play a pivotal role in our season this far."
Sonoma State (1-6, 0-3 CCAA) jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first four minutes, but the Gators went on a 7-0 run capped by a Van Sickel three to take a 11-10 lead in the next three minutes. They increased their lead to 22-12 on a three by
Leticia Galarza with 9:07 left in the first half.
The Seawolves did not go away as cut the Gator lead to 22-17 on a Tanner Adams' lay-up, but the hosts finished the half outscoring their guests 9-1 to take a 31-18 lead in the locker room.
SF State increased its lead to 48-27 in the first six minutes of the second half as looked like the Gators were going to cruise to the CCAA victory.
Sonoma State though would not go away as the Seawolves cut the deficit to 56-50 on a three by Adams with 47 seconds left in regulation.
SF State went six-for-six from the charity stripe in the final 47 seconds including Van Sickel going four-for-four to take the 62-52 win.
Kristina Fahey led the Seawolves with 14 points while Hannah Sourek had 11 poitns and 13 rebounds.
The Gators and Seawolves will face each other again on Dec. 22 in Rohnert Park, Calif., for a 2pm scheduled conference at The Wolves Den on Sonoma State's campus.
