Box Score LOS ANGELES---- Cal State L.A. outscored the visiting SF State Gators 19-9 in the final seven minute to key its 75-60 CCAA victory. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 15-9 overall and 10-7 in the CCAA while the Gators are now 10-11 overall and 7-10 in the CCAA. SF State is still in a tie for seventh place with CSU San Bernardino while Cal State L.A. is now in a tie for fourth place with Cal State East Bay.
“We played our worst half of basketball in the second half this evening,” said SF State head women's basketball coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace. “Our inability to make stops and missing consecutive free throws have been a concern throughout the season. We have to have a better effort tomorrow evening in Carson.”
Desiree Collins recorded her first double-double as a Gator with 11 points and a season high 11 rebounds to lead the way for SF State. Also scoring in double figures for the Gators was
Farrah Shokoor with 11 points. Shokoor also had 5 assists, 7 rebounds and three steals to go along with her 11 points.
Cal State L.A. had five players score in double digits led by Tessondra Williams with a game high 19 points.
SF State started the game on the right foot as they took a 15-9 lead on a jumper by
Michaela Booker with 12:40 left in the first half. The Golden Eagles held the Gators scoreless in the next five minutes to tie the game at 15-15.
They then outscored their guests 17-10 to take a 29-22 lead on a Samantha Hansen jumper with 3:10 to go in the half.
Farrah Shookor's old-fashioned three-point play capped a 13-2 run by the Gators to end the half cutting the lead to 35-31 heading into the locker room.
Cal State L.A. went on a 9-4 run to open the second half to take its largest lead of the game, 44-35, in the first six minutes of the new stanza.
The Gators would not go away as
Shannon Rankin's three capped a 11-6 run by the visitors as they cut the deficit to 50-46 with 9:40 on the clock.
Williams connected on two free throws on the hosts' next possession to build their lead to 52-46. Collins' jumper with 8:30 on the clock cut the Gator deficit to 52-48, which was the closest SF State would get as the Golden Eagles outscored their guests 23-12 in the final minutes to take the 75-60 victory.
The Gators will travel to Carson, Calif., tomorrow evening for a 5:30 pm scheduled tip-off with Cal State Dominguez Hills. SF State defeated the Toros 75-59 earlier this season in San Francisco. The Toros lost 72-71 to Sonoma State this evening in a CCAA game in Carson
