SEASIDE, Calif.---The Cal State Monterey Bay Otters took game one, 2-1 of this weekend's four game series this afternoon against the visiting SF State Gators  at the Otter Sports Complex in Seaside, CA. in a California collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest. With pitching taking center stage, it was hard for both teams to get into a rhythm offensively.

The first scoring play of the game came in the top of the fourth inning for the Gators. Miguel Flores hit a one out double and later came around to score when Randy Villa reached on a throwing error to give SF State a 1-0 lead. The Otters (9-3, 4-1) answered quickly however in the bottom half of the inning when Andres Coll led off with a single up the middle, advancing to third on a throwing error. Jesse Olson then drove him in on a sacrifice fly to even up the game at 1-1.

The Gators threatened again in the top of the seventh. A.J. Pianto had a lead-off walk, followed by Villa's single to third. However CSUMB's pitching, led by Chris Daniels, were able to escape the inning with no runs. The Otters were able to put a run on the board in the bottom half of the seventh when Victor Rasor-Thompson doubled home Jason Merjano to give the a 2-1 lead, which ended up being the final score of the game.

SF State (3-10, 0-5 CCAA) starter Trevor Deskin went two innings, surrendering two hits, two walks, and no runs. The loss goes to Eric Watts, who falls to 0-1 on the season after surrendering one run after an inning and two-thirds.

Daniels improves to 2-0 on the season after going seven innings, surrendering five hits, two walks, and one unearned run while striking out four. A.J. Quintero recorded his second save of the season.

The two teams will continue their four-game series tomorrow morning at 11am when they travel back to Maloney Field on the campus of San Francisco State for a doubleheader.
