SEASIDE, Calif.—  The visiting SF State Gators made the most of their opportunities early in this afternoon's CCAA road game in Seaside, Calif., as they defeated the Cal St. Monterey Bay Otters 6-1.  The Gators scored four runs in the top of the first inning on just three hits to key their win over the Otters.

Paul Moeller (1-0) picked up his first win as a Gator in the start as he pitched the first two innings.  Moeller gave up four hits, one run while striking out two and walking one.  SF State sent other pitchers to the mound this afternoon in Taylor Wade, Jack Jorgensen and Jack Veronin.  Those three combined to pitch the final seven innings, giving up 6 hits while striking out two and walking four.

Dillon Meyer led off the game reaching first on a walk.  He went to second on Carter Loud's bunt single.  Grady Espinosa then loaded the bases as he reached base when the Otters misplayed his sacrifice bunt. Still with no outs, Randy Villa walked to drive in Meyer with the game's first run.

Miguel Flores and Mark Lindsay each singled to drive in Loud and Espinosa to give the Gators a 3-0 lead.  Villa scored as the Otters induced the next Gator batter to ground out into a double play as the Gators started the game with a 4-0 lead.

The Otters (11-4, 6-2 CCAA) scored their only run in their half of the first inning.  Brian Haggett, who finished the day 3-for-4, hit a two-out run scoring single to drive in Ronnie Fhurong to cut into SF State's lead, 4-1.

SF State (4-12, 1-7 CCAA) added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings.  Meyer scored in the fourth on a one-out single by Espinosa after reaching base on a lead-off single.  Lindsay scored the Gators' final run in the fifth.  He reached bases on a lead-off walk and went to third on a single by AJ Pianto.  The sophomore catcher scored when the Otters' pitcher was called for a balk.

Josh Eagle (1-2) recorded the loss for the Otters as he pitched 2.1 innings, giving up four this and four runs (three earned) while striking out 1 and walking six.  Five Otter pitchers combined for 11 walks this afternoon including Eagles' six.

The Gators pitchers threw a tight game and got the Cal St. Monterey Bay Otters to ground into five double plays to assist them in shutting down the Otter offense.

SF State had 10 hits on the day led by Pianto with three and Espinosa with two.

The Gators will return home this Friday, March 1 when they begin a four-game series with Cal State Stanislaus.  First pitch of game one of the four-game series will be at 2pm at Maloney Field on Friday.  The series will then move to Turlock, Calif., on Saturday, March 2 for an 11am starting doubleheader.  It will conclude at SF State's Maloney Field with a single nine-inning game beginning at 11am on Sunday, March 3.
