SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 5-4 in game one of this afternoon's doubleheader.  The Broncos blanked SF State 7-0 in the night cap as the two teams split this afternoon's conference doubleheader at Maloney Field in San Francisco.

The Broncos took a 2-0 lead in game one in the first inning.  Trevor Magno walked to lead off the game and scored on a triple by Bo Walter to right center.  Walter scored on a sacrifice fly by Donald Walter to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Cal Poly Pomona added another run in the fourth on a Joseph Eusebio one-out double to right center which drove in Chris Carlson to increase the Broncos' lead to 3-0.  Eusebio reached base as he was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth.

The Broncos took a 4-0 lead in the sixth on an Eusebio two-out run scoring single that drove in Carlson, who led off the inning with an infield single.

SF State scored its first run in the bottom of the sixth on a one-out double to left center by Grady Espinosa which drove in Carter Loud.

Nolan Sheridan (3-0) came in relief of Gator starter, Zack Malik, in the top of the seventh and held the Broncos scoreless in their half of the inning.

The Gators cut the deficit to 4-2 on a sacrifice fly by AJ Almaraz in the bottom of the seventh which drove home Mark Lindsay.  Lindsay started the inning reaching base on a fielding error by Cal Poly Pomona (16-10, 9-10 CCAA).  He went to third on a single by Joe Chedid and scored on Almaraz's sacrifice fly to center.

Sheridan then retired the Broncos in the top of the eighth inning to set up the heroics by the home team.

Then in the bottom of the eighth inning the Gators had two outs when their rally began.  Randy Villa, Miguel Flores and Lindsay loaded the bases with back-to-back-to-back singles.  Chedid hit an infield single that drove in Villa to cut the Bronco lead to 4-3.  Then with the count 1-1 on AJ Pianto, the senior designated hitter hit the next pitch he saw to left center to drive in the tying and what proved to be the game-winning runs in Flores and Lindsay.

Peter Reyes came in to pitch the ninth inning for the Gators.  Eusebio, who finished game one 3-for-4 with two RBIS, led off the inning with a single to right field, but was retired at second when the next Bronco hit into a fielder's choice.  Reyes induced the next hitter to hit into another fielder's choice.  Bo Walter then hit a two-out single through the left side to put runners at first and second.  Reyes preserved the Gator win as he induced the next batter to ground out back to Lindsay to give the home team the 5-4 come-from-behind victory.

Sheridan picked up the win in relief, pitching two innings of one-hit relief while striking out two.  Reyes recorded his fifth save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning giving up just two hits.

Three Gators had two hits apiece in Dillon Meyer, Lindsay and Chedid as a team; SF State had 10 hits in the game.

Kevin Bosson (6-2) recorded the loss, pitching 7.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and five runs (four earned) while striking out four.

In the night cap, the Broncos took a 2-0 lead in the third inning.  Nicholas Cooksey had a lead-off infield single.  He went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Magno and scored with two-outs when Whitman reached on a Gator fielding error.  Donald Walter drove in Whitman with a two-out double to left field.

SF State (9-14, 6-9 CCAA) had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth but stranded two runners on base.

Villa had a lead-off single and went to second on a one-out single by Lindsay.  Broncos' pitcher Ryan Dunn induced the nex

Cal Poly Pomona had 13 hits in the night cap with Donald Walter leading the way going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.  Three other Broncos had two hits apiece in Bo Walter, Whitman and Eusebio.
