Gators Sweep Warriors, 9-4 and 10-4

Zack Mailk Picked Up His Second Win of the Season in Game One of This Afternoon's DH at CSUS

 TURLOCK, Calif.--  The SF State Gators swept a doubleheader from the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors this afternoon 9-4 and 10-4 at Warrior Field in Turlock.  The Gators managed 26 hits in the two games with Mark Lindsay and Randy Villa each with four.  Zack Malik picked up his first complete game win to improve to 2-2 in game one while Jack Veronin recorded the win in the night cap. 
 
The score was tied at 0-0 until SF State scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning.  Miguel Flores started the inning reaching base on a hit batsman.  He went to second on a Mark Lindsay single up the middle.  They both advanced a base on a sacrifice by AJ Pianto.  Joseph Chedid walked to load the bases.  With one out, AJ Almaraz drove in Flore with the game's first run.
 
The Gators added two more runs on a Dillon Meyer single to right center.  Then the next SF State batter, Carter Loud, singled home Lindsay.  Randy Villa drove in Meyer with the inning's final run to leaving the Gators up 5-0.
 
SF State added a run in the sixth inning and two more runs the seventh to take an 8-0 lead.
 
Cal State Stanislaus finally scored in its half of the seventh as the Warriors crossed home plate twice to cut into the Gator lead, 8-2.
 
The visitors added an insurance run in the eighth inning as Almaraz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that brought in Justin Lamb.  The senior transfer reached base on two-out single.  He went to third when Pianto and Chedid reached base on back to back walks. 
 
The Warriors managed another run in the ninth to make the final, 9-4, Gators.
 
SF State (7-12, 4-7 CCAA) had 15 hits in the game lead by Loud's three hits.  Meyer, Villa, Lindsay and Chedid all had two hits while Meyer also drove in three runs. 
 
Zack Malik (2-2) pitched a complete game victory, giving up six hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out five and walking one.
 
In the night cap, the Gators jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the first inning and never looked back. 
 
Loud walked with one out and went to second on a single by Espinosa.  He then scored on a single by Randy Villa.  Then with the bases loaded after Flores singled, Lindsay and Pianto each walked to bring in Espinosa and Villa.  Flores scored when Chedid was hit by a pitch.  Then with one out, Almaraz hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Lindsay.  Meyer, who was the ninth batter of the inning, then drove in the final run of the inning in Pianto on a single through the left side.
 
Cal State Stanislaus (5-13, 2-9 CCAA) scored twice in the bottom of the second inning and added another in the third on a two-out single by Tynan Pedretti to cut into the Gator lead, 6-3.
 
The Warriors made it 6-4 SF State on Klayton Miller's RBI single in the fourth and that is the closest the hosts would get as the Gators scored four more runs in the seventh to make the final 10-4 SF State.
 
Jack Veronin (1-2) picked up the win in relief, giving up two hits and one run in 3.1 innings.
 
SF State managed 11 hits in game two with Espinosa going 3-for-5 and Villa, Flores and Lindsay each with two hits. 
 
Meyer drove in two runs as did Almaraz while Flores and Lindsay each crossed home twice to lead the way for the Gators.
 
The series will conclude tomorrow morning at SF State's Maloney Field with first pitch scheduled for 11am PST.
