Lindsay Keys Gators' 2-1 Win Over #24 Sonoma State

SAN FRANCISCOMark Lindsay drove in both of this afternoon's runs including the game-winning run on a one-out single down the right field line that drove in Dillon Meyer in the bottom of the eighth inning with what proved to be the game-winning in SF State's 2-1 win over #24 Sonoma State.  Nolan Sheridan picked up his first collegiate save as he pitched a scoreless ninth including striking out the last batter.
 
The game was scoreless until the Gator sixth when Miguel Flores singled to right center with one out.  Flores went to third on a failed picked off attempt by the Seawolf pitcher.  Lindsay hit the second pitch he saw to drive in Flores with a single to right center to give SF State a 1-0 lead.
 
Sonoma State (18-8, 10-6 CCAA) tied the game in the top of the eighth inning as Devon Zenn walked to lead off the Seawolf eighth.  He went to second on a ground by Garrett Schwartz.  Scott Moen then hit a single right field that drove in Zenn with the tying run. 
Sam Montgomery walked to put runners on first and second with just one out. 
 
Taylor Wade (2-0) came in to pitch for the Gators and retired the next two Sonoma State batters on a fly out to left field and a pop up to shortstop.
 
In the Gator half of the eighth, Dillon Meyer reached base on a two-base error by the Seawolves.  Then with one out, Lindsay hit a 3-1 pitch down the right field line to drive in Meyer with what proved to be the game-winning run. 
 
Sheridan then came in to pitch the top of the ninth.  He induced the first two Seawolf batters to ground outs.  The freshman pitcher then struck out the next batter on four pitches to preserve the 2-1 Gator win.
 
With the win, SF State (10-18, 7-13 CCAA) salvages the fourth and final game of the series from the Seawolves. 
 
Steven Zaharias (1-2) picked up the loss in relief for Sonoma State.  Matt Manfre started the game for the Seawolves, going 5.1 innings, giving up four hits and run while striking out one and walking one.  Moen and Montgomery each had two hits apiece to lead Sonoma State's hitting attack.
 
Taylor Wade picked up the win in relief for the Gators.  He pitched 0.2 scoreless innings of relief.  Jack Veronin started the game for SF State, pitching five innings, giving up three hits and no runs, striking out three and walking four.  Eric Watts pitched 2.1 innings of relief, giving up three hits, one run, walking two and striking out two. 
 
Sheridan pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up no hits and striking out one.

Lindsay finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Grady Espinosa also had two this on the day for the hosts.
 
SF State will return home this Thursday, March 28 as the Gators begin a four-game CCAA series with #13 Chico State.  First pitch is scheduled for 3pm at SF State's Maloney Field.
