SAN FRANCISCO --- Coming off a disappointing sweep to the California Collegiate Athletic Association's leading team, Humboldt State, SF State will look to rebound as it heads to UC San Diego for a four-game series. The Gators (13-16, 7-13 CCAA), who currently rank seventh in the CCAA, hope to come out of the matchup with the Tritons (17-13, 13-7 CCAA)--who sit tied for third in the conference--back in the mix of the standings and break a five-game losing streak.
As a team, the Gators boast a collective .249 batting average, led by
Courtney Gravel with a .309 average off a team-high 25 hits.
Kylie Grabowski and
Ashley Huff follow with .291 and .267 averages, and
Lucy Fernandez rounds up the top four hitters with a .261 average and .420 slugging percentage. Grabowski, who is currently on a four-game on base streak, has 23 hits on the season with a team-high 16 RBIs. Huff, who is tied for first in the CCAA with four triples, also has 23 hits and has stolen eight bases to lead SF State.
Defensively,
Cara Spence is fifth in the conference for most putouts with 183, while maintaining a 1.00 fielding percentage. From the circle, fellow four-year Gator
Marisa Ibarra is tied for third in the CCAA with 10 victories and sits sixth with 73 strikeouts. Ibarra (10-6) has pitched 100.2 innings to hold a 1.67 ERA.
UCSD enters the series after a week off, last splitting with #21 Cal State Dominguez Hills (L 2-1, W 6-1, W 4-0, L 8-0). Nicole Spangler leads the Tritons with a .390 average at the plate, ranking her seventh in the conference. Maria Sykes isn't far behind, however, with a .357 average. Emily McQuaid ranks third in the CCAA with 14 stolen bases, showing she is a runner catchers can't take their eyes off of.
The Triton pitching team collectively throws a 2.84 ERA led by Alexis Edwards' 1.04 ERA in 14 appearances to lead the conference's pitchers. Jennifer Manuel follows with a 1.88 ERA and a 5-1 record from the circle.
Last year, the Tritons took three of the four games against the Gators with SF State claiming the final ball game. This year's four-game series opens Friday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in La Jolla. Saturday concludes the action with another doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m., which will feature video through the UCSD website at:
