CSUDH Defeats Gators 14-2 in Series Finale

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State Dominguez Hills scored 14 unanswered runs including 10 in the fourth and fifth innings as they defeated the SF State Gators 14-2 in this weekend's four-game CCAA series finale at SF State's Maloney Field.  Matt Montgomery (3-3) picked up the win as the Toros took the series 3-1.
 
SF State took a 2-0 lead in its half of the second inning as Justin Lamb led off with an infield single.  He went to second on a ground out by AJ PiantoCarter Loud hit a one-out single up the middle to drive in Lamb with the game's first run.  On the play, Loud went to third on a throwing by the visitors.  He then scored on a ground out by Randy Villa to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
 
The score remained 2-0 Gators until the Toro fourth inning and the visitors scored six runs on five hits to take the 6-2 lead.  Chris Allen had the big hit in the inning a two-run single up the middle that drove in Carlos Avila and Bubby Rossman. 
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills (19-18, 15-13 CCAA) added four runs in the top of the fifth to take a 10-2 lead. 
 
The visitors added two more runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth on a two-run home run by Tony McClendon.
 
Nolan Sheridan (5-1) recorded the loss for the Gators as he pitched four innings, gave up 6 hits and 6 runs (three earned) while walking three. 
 
SF State (13-27, 10-22 CCAA) managed just four hits on the day off of Toro pitching trio of Montgomery, Danny Nieves and Cody Yates. 
 
Montgomery recorded the win in the start for the visitors, pitching 7 innings, giving up four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out and walking one.  Danny Nieves pitched a scoreless eighth and Cody Yates did the same in the  ninth.
 
Fernandon Gallegoes led the way for the Toros' hitters going 4-for-6 as he drove in two runs.  Cal State Dominguez Hills had 19 hits on the day with five other batters having two hits apiece in David Steininger, Carlos Avila, Chris Allen, Hayden Maurice and Danny Haley.
 
SF State will return to the diamond this Friday, April 19 in San Bernardino, Calif., .as the Gators take on the Cal State San Bernardino in the first game of a four-game weekend series at Fiscalini Field in San Bernardino.  First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
