HAYWARD , Calif.— SF State's freshman right-handed pitcher
Nolan Sheridan pitched a one-hit complete game shutout in the Gators' 3-0 win over the Cal State East Bay Pioneers (30-16, 20-16 CCAA) this afternoon to spoil the Pioneers' Senior Day. With the win, Sheridan finishes his first season as a Gator with a 6-1 record.
The Gators scored all the runs Sheridan needed in their half of the fourth inning.
Miguel Flores had a lead-off single and scored on a double to right center by
Justin Lamb.
The visitors doubled the score in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead.
Mark Lindsay had a one-out double down the right field line and scored on a
Carter Loud single to left field.
Cal State East Bay tried to break up the shutout in the sixth inning. Jordan Walker walked with one out and went to second on a two-out walk to Brandon Alexander. Sheridan induced the next Pioneer to ground out, ending the inning unscathed.
SF State (16-32, 13-27 CCAA) added an insurance run in the seventh to put further pressure on the Pioneers.
Danny Souza tripled to right center with one out and scored on a single to right field by
Dillon Meyer.
In the Pioneer eighth, Zac Chuvala reached on an error to lead off the inning. Sheridan then retired the next three batters on back-to-back strikeouts and a fly out.
Then in the Pioneer ninth, Alexander had a lead-off walk but the Gator freshman induced the next three batters to ground out to preserve the complete game shutout for the visitors.
Sheridan gave up just one hit and struck out three and walked three batters. Nick Hudson (2-2) recorded the loss for the hosts, pitching 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and three runs while striking out five.
Meyer finished the day with two of the Gators' 8 hits and a run driven in. He also had three stolen bases to give him 18 for the season.
