Box Score 2 TURLOCK --- After getting back their offensive spark yesterday, the SF State Gators continued to grab hits in the final day of the Tournament of Champions, but couldn't see the runners in to score. Despite out-hitting the National Collegiate Athletic Association Div. II No. 21-ranked Grand Canyon 8-to-6, the Gators fell 3-1 to the 'Lopes to end the tournament with a 2-4 record. SF State went on to pick up a game against Western Washington and dropped a 8-7 result in the last inning of play to,fall to 15-25 on the season.
Courtney Gravel and
Lucy Fernandez led the Gators at the plate in the tournament game with 2-for-4 performances, including a double from Fernandez.
Jennifer Lewis went 1-for-3 and scored the lone run for SF State. In the circle,
Marisa Ibarra struck out four batters in seven innings of play.
With a runner on first and two outs, the 'Lopes capitalized first on a double to center before SF State could find the third putout.
In their first chance at the plate, Fernandez opened the inning with a one-out double deep to left center and Gravel joined her on base with a base hit of her own through the left to push Fernandez to third. Gravel advanced to second on the next play, but the Antelopes picked up their second and third outs before the Gators could even the score.
GCU added two insurance runs in the top of the second off two hits. The 'Lopes had runners on second and third with two outs and Kayla Henry knocked a triple, keeping fair down the right field line to send in the pair and put Grand Canyon up 3-0.
Hungry for runs, Lewis singled through the gap between the shortstop and third baseman to open the inning.
Kelsey Murakami joined her on base, taking advantage of an Antelope error.
Marisa Andrade stepped up to the plate and found a hole up the middle for a basehit, scoring Lewis from second.
Still trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Gators had a chance to tie the score and keep the game alive. Fernandez started a two-out rally by singling to right and Gravel followed with a base hit through to left. SF State couldn't complete the comeback, however, as GCU sealed the 3-1 win with the third putout.
After being eliminated from the Tournament of Champions, SF State picked up a neutral site game against Western Washington with Gravel once again leading the Gators from the batter's box. Gravel went 3-for-4, batting in three RBIs and scored one run herself. Lewis,

Sarah Catania each added a pair of hits to add to SF State's total of 13 hits.
The Gators struck first to take a 7-1 lead after six chances at bat, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth. Western Washington turned around and scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning and stole the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double to right field, giving the Vikings the 8-7 win.
SF State returns home to California Collegiate Athletic Association action, hosting Cal State Monterey Bay for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. Friday's contests begin at 1 p.m. with Saturday's games starting at noon.
