SF State Records Third Shutout in 2-0 Road Win at CSUS

Kevin Johnson Assisted On What Proved to be the Game-Winner in SF State's 2-0 Win in Turlock
Box Score TURLOCK— The SF State Gators' men's soccer team defeated the defending CCAA champions 2-0 this evening at Warrior Field in Turlock, Calif.  With the win, the Gators improve to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCAA while winning for the first time in Turlock since 2007.

“We really played well this evening,” said SF State head coach Joe Hunter.  “The guys controlled the whole match and we had two really nice goals.”  “We did what we had to do this evening to win the match.”

All three of the Gators' victories this season have been by shutouts.  This time, SF State goalkeeper Colt Reichl had to fend off just one shot by the Gators' opponent.

Each team recorded 7 shots, but the Gators held a slim 4-2 and 3-2 advantage in shots on goal and corner kicks this evening.

SF State's first goal came in the 56th minute as Andrew Ogilvy connected off a clean pass from Kevin Johnson to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.  The Gators doubled their lead in the 74th minute, when Sam Merritt connected on a ball from Jorge Valadas after the junior intercepted the ball from the Warriors.

Clint Long had two saves in goal for Cal State Stanislaus, who falls to 2-4-1 overall and 1-4 in the CCAA.

SF State will return to the pitch this Sunday, Sept. 29 for a 2pm starting match in Hayward, Calif., against Cal State East Bay.  The Pioneers defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 3-1 this evening in Hayward.
