Gators To Travel to Nebraska to Participate in the UNK Midwest Duals

SAN FRANCISCO –Coming off a 51-0 win over Simpson University, who was ranked, 14th in the nation in NAIA, the SF State Gators will return to the mat this Saturday, January 18 in Kearney, Neb., as they will participate in the UNK Midwest Duals at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. 
 
SF State improved to 3-1 in dual meets as they defeated the Red Hawks of Simpson University 51-0 this past Saturday afternoon.  Conrad Snell (149) improved to 12-7 with his ninth win by fall while Dylan Phillipy recorded his third win by technical fall as he improved to 12-8 at 141 in leading the Gators to the non-conference win.
 
Senior Isaiah Hurtado (141) leads the Gators with his 16-5 record while Andrew Reggi (197) and Zach Jimenez (184) are right behind him at 15-5 and 15-6 respectively.  Four other SF State wrestlers have recorded double digits in wins this season in Tavis Ino (157) 13-10, Hildelv Manzur (285) 12-9, Anthony Figueroa (133) 12-9, Vicente Aboytes (165) 11-8 and Jordan Gurrola (125) 10-5. 
 
The Gators will have four duals including two against top 10 Division II teams in No. 6 Adams State (Colo.) and No. 9 Western State Colorado. Three of the four duals for the Gators are against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents (Adams State, Western State Colorado, and Chadron State) with the other one against Northern State who is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  SF State, under the direction of Lars Jensen, will start their morning this Saturday with a 9am local starting time match against the sixth ranked Adams State Grizzlies. 
 
The Grizzlies are currently 1-0 in dual meets after defeating Simon Fraser 40-12 this past weekend. They will host Colorado State Pueblo this Thursday.  Ryan Fillingame leads the way for Adams State, as he is currently number one in the nation at 141.  He finished seventh at the prestigious Midland Championships in Evanston, Ill.    Justin Samora is ranked fifth at 165 for the Grizzlies.
 
SF State will then face Chadron State at 11:30am local time.  The Eagles are currently 3-3 after defeating Morningside College 27-15.  They will travel to Pueblo, Colo., this Wednesday and host New Mexico Highlands this Thursday before participating in the UNK Midwest Duals.  Jordan DeBus leads the way for Chadron State as he is currently ranked 7th in the nation at 184.
 
The Gators will then face No. 9 Western State Colorado at 2pm CT.  The Mountaineers had their first three duals of the season this weekend as they hosted the Tracy Borah Duals.  Western State Colorado lost 26-9 to the Air Force Academy and then came back and defeated Simon Fraser (40-10) and Embry-Riddle (37-6).  Elliott Copeland leads the way for Western State Colorado as he is third at 174.
 
SF State will end its day with a scheduled 4pm non-conference dual with the Wolves of Northern State (SD).  The Wolves are 2-2 after losing 27-16 to Minnesota State-Moorhead.  Leading the way for the Wolves is Sean Havlovic (157) and Joe Gomez (197) who each are 15-7 while Anthony Bruno is 14- 7 at 125.
 
After this weekend, the Gators will host Stanford University at 1pm on Saturday, January 25 at The Swamp.
