Gators Fall 79-64 at CSUDH To Finish 1-1 on the Weekend

CARSON, Calif.—  Cal State Dominguez Hills held the visiting SF State Gators to just 38% shooting from the field including 35% from three-point land to key the Toros' 79-64 conference victory this evening at the Torodome.  The Toros are now 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the CCAA and have won eight of their last ten games. 
 
"Anytime you get a split on the road, you have to be pleased," said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  "Cal State Dominguez Hills is a solid team who is playing exceptionally well right now."  "We were not able to compete with them on the glass and we were not able to match their overall intensity this evening."
 
Katie Batlin's three gave the Gators their only lead of the game at 5-4 in the first four minutes of the game.
 
The Toros went on a 15-3 run in the next four minutes to take a 20-7 lead. 
 
SF State outscored its hosts 14-9 in the next seven minutes to cut the deficit to 29-21 on a three by Batlin.  The Toros finished the half outscoring the Gators, 11-6, to take a 40-27 lead heading into the second half.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills came out strong in the second half as the Toros built a 20-point lead (53-33) in the first five minutes of the second stanza.  SF State cut the deficit to 62-47 with 9:24 to go, but the Toros increased the lead to 68-47 on a Monay Lee lay-up and cruised to the 79-64 conference victory over the visiting Gators.
 
Batlin paced the Gators with 23 points as SF State fell to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the CCAA.  The senior transfer also had 7 rebounds, 5 assists and four steals for the visitors.  Michelle Sutton added 14 points off the bench for the Gators while Lauren Varney added 10 points.
 
Four Toros scored in double figures led by Amber Wharton's 20 points.  Monay Lee had a double-double for the hosts with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Cal State Dominguez Hills out-rebounded SF State 45-32 and also forced 16 turnovers.
 
SF State will continue its season long five-game road trip this Thursday, January 9 at 5:30pm, when the Gators travel to Pomona, Calif., for a 5:30pm PST scheduled tip-off with Cal Poly Pomona.
 
The Gators are in a four-way tie for fourth place with Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego.   Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay are all tied for first place.
