@SFState_MSOC To Host No. 8 Cal Poly Pomona This Friday at 12:30pm

SF State Gators Men's Soccer To Begin a Three-Match Home Stand

SAN FRANCISCO –After spending the last two weeks on the road in the CCAA, the SF State Gators' men's soccer team will return home this weekend to begin a three-match home stand.  The Gators will host No. 8 Cal Poly Pomona this Friday, October 17 at 12:30pm at Cox Stadium.
 
SF State comes into its match this Friday with the Broncos with a 5-5-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the CCAA.  The Gators, under the direction of head coach Matt Barnes, are tied for ninth place with Cal State Monterey Bay.  The top six teams at the regular season will receive a bid to the six-team 2014 CCAA Championships which begin on Sunday, November 2 with the quarterfinal matches. 
 
Jakob Velega paces the Gators with four goals and is tied with Sam Merritt for the team lead with 8 points.  Merritt leads the team with his four assists while Kevin Johnson has scored a team leading two game-winning goals.  Daniel Boyer has posted a 0.96 goals against average with 38 saves and 3.5 shutouts in 11 matches.  Colt Reichl also has seen time in goal in three matches.  He has posted a 1.35 goals against average with six saves. 
 
Boyer is currently fourth in the conference with his 38 saves and .792 saves percentage.
 
Cal Poly Pomona comes into this Friday's match with the Gators with a 11-0-1 record including a 6-0 mark in CCAA games.  Christian Gonzalez leads the Broncos with his seven goals and 16 points.  Daniel Garcia has a team leading 10 assists.  Fernando Pablo Quevedo has posted a 0.27 goals against average with six shutouts and 35 saves.  The Broncos currently are in first place in the CCAA.
 
The Gators will also host UC San Diego this Sunday morning at 11:30am.  The Tritons come into this weekend with a 9-3-1 overall record including a 4-1-1 record in the CCAA.  The Tritons are in third place in the conference.  Brandon Bauman leads the Tritons with his four goals, six assists and 14 points.  Cameron McElfresh has posted a 0.60 goals against average with six shutouts and 23 saves in goal for UC San Diego. 
 
After this weekend, the Gators will continue their three-match home stand with a mid-week match on Wednesday, October 22 at 1pm against Hawai'i-Hilo.
