SAN FRANCISCO –The SF State Gators men's soccer team will face three opponents this week beginning with a home non-conference match tomorrow afternoon at 1pm against Hawaii-Hilo. They will then go on the road for the final time this regular season with matches this Friday and Sunday at Chico State and Cal State San Bernardino.
The Gators are coming off a 1-1 weekend in which they lost to then No. 8 Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 in double overtime this past Friday. SF State rebounded on Sunday with a 2-0 win over UC San Diego. With going .500 over the weekend, SF State is now 6-6-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the CCAA.
The Gators are tied for eighth with Sonoma State with just three conference matches left in the regular season. The top six teams after October 30 will receive a berth in the 2014 CCAA Soccer Championships, which begin on November 2.
After scoring a goal in the Gators' 2-0 win on Sunday,
Sam Merritt has moved into the team lead in scoring with three goals, a team high four assists and 10 points.
Jakob Velega has scored a team high four goals while
Kevin Johnson leads the team with his three game-winning goals.
Daniel Boyer has posted a 0.87 goals against average with 44 saves and 4.5 shutouts.
Hawai'i-Hilo is currently 5-6 after winning its last two home matches against Cal Baptist (3-0) and Dixie State (1-0). The Vulcans have not played since October 11 in Hilo. Mike Reckmeyer has scored a team leading five goals for 10 points and seven different players have recorded one assist. Tyler Hoffman and Erick Lemus have shared time in goal. Hoffman has posted a 1.29 goals against average with 22 saves and two shutouts while Lemus has a 1.52 goals against average with 20 saves.
SF State will then travel north this Friday evening for a 7pm starting match at Chico State. The Wildcats come into Friday's match with the Gators with a 6-6-2 record including a 1-6-1 record in the CCAA. They are tied for 11
th with Cal State East Bay. Chico State is coming off a 0-1-1 weekend, which the Wildcats tied 0-0 at home against Cal State East Bay and lost 1-0 at Cal State Stanislaus. Matt Hurlow leads the Wildcats with his four goals and Patrick Lee has a team high four assists. Luke Dennison has posted a 0.82 goals against average with 48 saves and five shutouts.
After Friday's match in Chico, SF State will travel south for an 11:30am starting match at Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes are 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the CCAA, which ties them for fifth place with Humboldt State. Corey Christ and Juan Carolos Gonzalez lead the team with their five goals and Diego Mendoza has a team high four assists. Ivan Sanchez and Roberto Gonzalez have shared time in goal with each posting a 1.48 and 1.50 goals against average respectively. Gonzalez also has three shutouts.
SF State will round out its regular season schedule next Thursday, October 30 at 12:30pm for a CCAA match with Sonoma State at home. Prior to the match, the Gators will recognize their seniors.
