SAN FRANCISCO -- After going 1-1 this past weekend, the SF State Gators will continue their four-match road trip this weekend with a pair of CCAA matches in Los Angeles. This Friday, October 10 at 4:30pm, SF State will face Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson. Then on Sunday, the Gators will travel to Los Angeles for a 2pm match with Cal State L.A.
The Gators are 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA, which places in a four-way tie for ninth place with Cal Poly Pomona, Humboldt State and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth in the CCAA Soccer Championships. The championships start on Sunday, November 2 with the quarterfinals at the higher seed. Then the tournament will move to Turlock for the semi-finals and finals on Friday and Sunday, November 7 and 9.
This past Friday, the Gators lost 1-0 at Cal State Monterey Bay as Land recorded three saves in goal for SF State. Then on Sunday, SF State rebounded with a 3-0 win at Humboldt State.
Kelsey Wetzstein had a goal and assist while
Rachel Arce and
Brittany Oldham also scored for the victors.
Sarah Guensler also had an assist for SF State while Land had 5 saves in goal.
Elizet Ceja leads the team with her four goals (two assists) and 10 points. She also has a team leading two game-winning goals.
Autumn Fox is right behind Ceja with three goals, two assists and 8 points while
Kelsey Wetzstein leads the team with her six assists.
Allison Land has posted a 0.78 goals against average with three shutouts and 31 saves.
Wetzstein is tied for the league lead with her six assists while Ceja is tied for third in game-winning goals. Land is also in the top 10 in the CCAA as she is third in goals against average and tied for fifth in shutouts.
Cal State Dominguez Hills is 1-9-1 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA, which puts them in a four-way tie for ninth place with the Gators, Cal Poly Pomona and Humboldt State. Johana Rosas leads the team with three points while four Toros have scored goals this season. Four different players have seen time in goal for the Toros with Jennifer Ackerly posting a 1.44 goals against average with 24 saves in five matches.
The first place Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles are 9-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA. Amalia Arvidsson leads the team with her six goals (two assists) and 14 points. Norie Pablo and Heather Williams are tied for the team lead with four assists while Arvidsson also has a team high three game-winning goals. Yi Du has posted a 0.52 goals against average with 38 saves and four shutouts.
SF State will return home after this weekend on Friday, October 17 at 3pm, when the Gators host Cal Poly Pomona. This will begin a three-match home stand for the Gators.
