@SFState_WBB Renews Rivalry With Sonoma State Sunday

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, renewing its series against Bay Area rival Sonoma State at the Wolves Den.  Tip-off is slated for noon, for fans not attending the game live stats and video will be available that can be accessed on the women's basketball schedule page.
 
The Gators enter this weekend's contest looking to get into the win column.  The Gators are 0-7 to begin the 2014-15 season and are 0-3 in conference play.  As a team, they average 54.7 points per game shooting 35.0 percent from the floor.  Their opponents are averaging 74.0 points per game and shooting 46.3 points per game. 
 
Through seven contests the Gators have three players averaging double-figures.  Leading the team is senior forward Michelle Sutton who averages 12.1 points per contest.  Fellow senior Leticia Galarza is tied for second on the team averaging 10.9 points per contest.  Galarza also leads the team with nine made three point baskets this season.  Freshman Savannah Camp also averages 10.9 points per game, she leads the team averaging 5.0 rebounds per contest.
 
According to SF State's records, the Gators are 33-33 all-time against the Seawolves in a series that dates back to the 1977-78 season.  In the first game between these two rivals the Gators defeated Sonoma State 92-22.  The 70 point victory is the largest margin of victory for either team in the series.  The Gators worst loss at the hands of the Seawolves came Feb. 23, 1991 when the Gators lost 83-44 at home.  The first 10 years of the rivalry was incredibly one sided as the Gators owned an 18-2 advantage in the series from 1977-87 including 9-0 to begin the series.  The two teams renewed the rivalry last Friday when the Seawolves defeated the Gators 66-59 in a game that was regionally televised, on Dec. 12.
 
Sonoma State enters this Sunday's contest riding a two-game winning streak and are currently 3-4 and 1-2 in the CCAA.  On Wednesday at the Wolves Den, the Seawolves defeated NAIA foe Pacific Union 100-55.  As a team, the Seawolves average 63.6 points per game and are shooting 39.3 from the field.  Their opponents are averaging 59.3 points per game and shooting 36.7.  Leading the team with 13.7 points per contest is junior center Hannah Sourek.  She also averages 6.1 rebounds per contest.
