OAKLAND--- SF State junior catcher Mark Lindsay hit a two-out two-run double in the Gators' three-run seventh inning that keyed the visitors' come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Holy Names University Hawks this evening at Laney College's Field of Dreams in Oakland, Calif.  Lindsay finished the evening 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored for the victors.

"Well I thought we played a complete baseball game compared to Sunday evening against Holy Names," said SF State head coach Mike Cummins.  "Mark Lindsay stepped up with the double that scored two of our five runs and we played better defense this evening which is one of our team's strengths."

The game was scoreless until the Hawk third inning when Matthew Dufford and Daniel Catalan had back-to-back one-out singles.  Still with one out, Caleb Parker hit a 2-2 ptich through the left side to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.  Zach Verlaan walked, but Gator starter (Jack Veronin) induced the next Hawk batter to line into a double play.

SF State (2-3) tied the game in the next half inning as Lindsay had a lead-off single to right center.  He went to second on a bunt single by Carter Loud.  They both advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by Garrett Heisinger.  Lindsay scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly to center field by Will Hein

Holy Names retook the lead in its half of the fourth when Nicholas Wagner had a lead-off single to left center off of Gator reliever, Ryan Bohnet.  Wagner then stole second with one out.  He went to third on a ground out and scored on a bunt single by Dusty Zeisler to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 2-1 Holy Names until the top of the seventh inning.  Dillon Meyer reached base with one out on a fielding error by the Hawks.  He went to third on a single down the left field line by Matt VeraGrady Espinosa was hit on the next pitch to load the bases for Bryce Cherry.  The Gator first baseman then hit the fifth pitch he saw for a sacrifice fly to left field which drove in Meyer with the game-tying run.

Lindsay  then hit the fourth pitch he saw to left center for a two-out two-run double that scored Vera and Espinosa to give the Gators a 4-2 lead, a lead the visitors would not relinquish.

Taylor Wade came on relief for the Gators in for Bohnet in the top of the seventh. He pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning.

The Gators added an insurance run in their half of the ninth.  Espinosa scored on a fielder's choice by Loud with one out to give SF State a 5-2 lead.

The Hawks made it interesting in the bottom of the inning.  Sean Carrington singled to right field to lead off the inning and went to second on a wild pitch.  Zeizler walked and then Cory Davis came in to pitch for the Gators.  Dufford walked to load the bases with no outs.  Catalan then reached on a fielder's choice to second which scored Carrington and forced Dufford out at second.  Then on the third pitch Davis threw to the next Hawk batter he induced a double play that went 1-6-3 as he recorded his second save of the season.

"Cory Davis was really solid, he was a little wild out there, but he settled down and got the double play," said Cummins.

Bohnet picked up the win in relief, in his first collegiate outing as he pitched three innings of relief, giving up two hits and one run while striking out one.  Davis pitched a scoreless ninth while walking just one in facing three batters.

"I thought Ryan (Bohnet) was very solid in his first collegiate outing," noted the Gator skipper.

Veronin started the game for SF State, pitching three innings of four-hit ball, giving up one run, striking out one and walking two.  Wade also pitched for the Gators, pitching two innings of three-hit ball, giving up one run, striking out one and walking two.

Zach Korte (0-2) recorded the loss for Holy Names, pitching 2.2 innings of relief, giving up four hits and three unearned runs while striking out two.

SF State managed 12 hits on the night en route to the win.  Matt Vera finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.  Grady Espinosa also had a multiple-hit evening, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Loud also had two hits in the Gators victory.

"We had good at bats this evening, we have to do better in situational hitting as we left a lot of guys on base," noted Cummins.  "We had a chance to break this one open but we hung in there and picked up the 'w',"

The Gators will continue their six-game road trip this Friday, February 14 at 6pm for a non-conference game at Fresno Pacific.  The two teams will continue the three-game weekend series the next day with a doubleheader starting at noon at Steinert Field in Fresno.
