Gators Rally Back From Two-Run Deficit to Earn Split Of DH at FPU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FRESNO The visiting SF State Gators rallied back from a 2-0 to defeat the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (5-4) in the final game of this weekend's three-game series, 3-2.  Dillon Meyer hit a two-out double to right center to drive in Garrett Heisinger with what proved to be the game-winner in the top of the sixth.  The Gators lost the opener 6-0.
 
The Sunbirds took a 1-0 lead when Michael Tittle scored on a sacrifice fly by Joshua Banuelos.  Tittle lead of the game with a walk later scored on the sacrifice fly. 
 
Fresno Pacific doubled its lead in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Kaohu Gasper that drove in Tittle, who finished the night cap 2-for-3. 
 
The score remained 2-0 Sunbirds until the top of the sixth. 
 
Will Hein had a two-out walk and went to second on a single to left field by Carter Loud.  Then with the count 2-1, Garrett Heisinger hit a triple to right center that drove in Hein and Loud with the tying runs.  That set up the table for Meyer, who hit a 1-2 pitch to right center for a double that drove in Heisinger for what proved to be the game-winning run.
 
Jack Veronin (1-0) pitched 5 innings, giving up five hits and two runs while striking out three and walking two.  Taylor Wade pitched a scoreless sixth inning and had a strikeout.  In his fourth appearance of the season, Cory Davis pitched a scoreless seventh en route to his third save of the season. 
 
Grady Espinosa and Carter Loud each had two hits to lead the Gators' hitting attack.
 
Drew Merlo (0-1) recored the loss in the start for the Sunbirds. 
 
The Sunbirds took game one 6-0 over the visiting SF State Gators as Wilson Ashford and Austin Tatum combined on a four-hit shutout.  Ashford (1-1) pitched eight scoreless innings of two hit ball while striking out 7 and Tatum finished off the game pitching a scoreless ninth.
 
Fresno Pacific scored all the runs that Ashford needed in the bottom of the first as Michael Tittle scored on a ground out by Joshua Banuelos.  Tittle led off the inning reaching base on a walk and went to third on an one-out double to left center by John Koretoff and then scored on Banuelos' ground out.
 
The Sunbirds added two more runs in the third and three more in the fifth.  Banuelos had a two-run single that drove in Kaohua Gasper and Michael Hostetler. 
 
Tittle finished game one, 3-for-4 scoring three of the Sunbirds' six runs.  He also had a solo home run in the fifth inning for the hosts.
 
Nolan Sheridan (0-3) recorded the loss, pitching four innings of 8 hit ball, giving up six runs, striking out four and walking two.  Ryan Romero pitched four scoreless innings of relief while giving up just two hits. 
 
SF State (3-5) will return to the diamond this Monday, February 17 at 11am for a non-conference doubleheader with Central Washington at The Swamp at Maloney Field on SF State's campus.
