San Francisco, Calif. – The SF State softball team will travel to Southern California to begin a four-game CCAA series at Cal State Dominguez Hills starting Friday. The Gators and Toros will play two double headers, with game one on Friday slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. Saturday's double header is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
SF State enters this series with a 5-6 overall record, and is currently 1-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Last weekend the Gators' went 1-3 in their CCAA opener at Cal State East Bay, salvaging the series finale winning 12-7. All 12 of those runs came after the fifth inning.
As a team, the Gators are hitting .277 which ranks ninth in the CCAA. SF State has scored 36 runs this season, averaging 3.27 runs per game. Last weekend however, the Gators busted out the lumber, scoring 20 of those 36 runs against the Pioneers.
Leading the team offensively is sophomore center fielder
Jennifer Lewis. Lewis is hitting .400, her 12 hits are second on the team, and she is also second on the team in runs scored (6), doubles (3), and RBI (5). Junior shortstop
Courtney Gravel is catching fire as well. She is currently second on the team with a .389 average. She leads the team with 14 hits and clubbed the Gators' first home run of the season during Saturday's double header.
In the circle, the Gators had a rough weekend in Hayward. SF State currently sport an ERA of 4.12, with opponents hitting .312 against SFSU's young pitchers. However, starters
Megan Clark and
Emily Gibson both boast ERA's under four. Clark leads the team with a 3.42 ERA; she has thrown four complete games with a complete game shutout. Gibson is tied with Clark in wins, both coming on complete game shutouts, including her 2014 season debut against Cal State Dominguez Hills on February 1.
The Toros enter this weekend with a record of 8-6 and are 2-2 in the CCAA. Last weekend they split their series with Cal State Stanislaus. Friday's contest will mark their home opener for 2014.
As a squad, CSUDH is hitting .316 going 123-for-389. They have clubbed 29 doubles and 10 home runs in this young season. Leading the team at the dish is junior catcher Kaci McGinnis, who is hitting .413, she is one of three players on the team with 19 hits, and she also has five doubles and two home runs.
On the rubber, the Toros boast a team ERA of 3.40. Jamie Duran leads the team with a 5-4 record and a 2.35 ERA. She was the pitcher who took the hard luck loss earlier in the year at the hands of the Gators, going 7.0 IP, scattering three hits, one run, and zero earned runs.
