SAN BERNARDINO---  The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes used a balanced scoring attack to help defeat the visiting SF State Gators (14-12, 10-10 CCAA) 83-63 this evening at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.  Alexicia Mack had a game high 21 points to lead the way for the hosts and was one of five Coyotes to score in double figures.

"As a team, we have been consistently inconsistent all season and this evening followed our inconsistent play all season long," said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  "We have to play our best games this upcoming weekend to have a chance to reach the tourney in March."

With the loss, the Gators fall into a tie for seventh place with Cal State Stanislaus and Humboldt State.  SF State is one game out of sixth place, which is currently held by Cal State East Bay.  The top six teams at the end of the regular season receive a berth to the 2013-14 CCAA Basketball Championships which starts on March 6 at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.

Lauren Varney paced SF State with 16 points while Jennifer Le chipped in 11 points and Katie Batlin added 11 points for the visitors.

The Coyotes (8-15, 7-13 CCAA) shot 45% from the field including 53% from three-point land.  Besides Mack's 21 points, Jazzymn Davis and Jenna Klein each had 17 points off the bench for the hosts while Tayllor Gipson and Trinidee Trice each had 10 points.  Trice also had 12 rebounds while Gipson had 12 assists.

The Coyotes jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game capped by a Davis' lay-up.

SF State followed that with a 14-4 run of its own as the Gators took an 18-14 lead on a Varney lay-up at the 11:14 mark of the first stanza.

The game went back and forth the final 10 minutes of the first stanza with the Coyotes taking a 38-34 lead into the locker room on a Klein lay-up.

Gipson's lay-up in the first five minutes of the new stanza gave the Coyotes a 52-43 lead.

The hosts increased their lead to 67-50 with nine minutes left.

SF State cut its deficit to 67-54 on a lay-up by Jennifer Le two minutes later but the Coyotes outscored their guests 10-2 to take a 77-56 lead at the 4:21 mark of the game.  The hosts went on for the 83-63 victory.

The Gators will now return to The Swamp for their final two games of the regular season beginning with this Friday, February 28 at 5:30pm, when they host Cal State East Bay.  One week from this evening, the Gators will host Cal State Monterey Bay in their regular season home finale also at 5:30pm at The Swamp. Prior the game, the Gators will recognize their seniors.
