Max Fodor led the team with his first double-double of the season scoring 15 points to go along with his game high 10 rebounds.
"I am very pleased with our total team effort this weekend in getting the sweep of CSUDH and Cal State L.A.," said SF State head coach
Paul Trevor.
The Gators, who are now 11-8 overall and 9-7 in the CCAA, forced 12 turnovers by Cal State L.A. and out-rebounded their visitors 35-31.
Will Overton, Jr. and
Nefi Perdomo each had 9 points for the Gators while
Udun Osakue and
Bennie Rhodes each had 8 points off the bench for the hosts.
"Max (Fodor) and Udun (Osakue) stepped it up big for us this evening down the stretch," added Trevor. "Max is starting to step his game up, finishing his shots and being aggressive on the glass." "Udun came up big for us after struggling with the flu during the week."
Quinton Watkins had 16 points to lead the way for the Golden Eagles (12-8, 9-7 CCAA).
SF State built a 16-8 lead mid-way through the first half, but Cal State L.A. went on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 18-17.
The Gators outscored the Golden Eagles 15-9 in the final seven minutes of the half to take a 33-26 lead into the locker room.
Nefi Perdomo's three off an assist from
Max Fodor on the Gators' first possession of the second half gave the hosts a 36-26 lead.
Cal State L.A. outscored its hosts 16-7 in the next seven minutes to cut the Gator lead to 43-42 on a three by Watkins.
The Gators came right back and took a 49-42 lead capped by an Osakue lay-up with 11:24 on the clock.
Cal State L.A. would not go away as the visitors cut the deficit to 51-50 on a jumper by James Tillman at the 7:32 mark of the game, but the Gators came right back and increased the lead to 59-51 on an Osakue lay-up with just three minutes to go in regulation.
The Golden Eagles once again cut the lead to 59-55 on a dunk by James Tillman, but the Gators went four-for-four from the charity stripe down the stretch with
Bren Haley and Perdomo each connected on their attempts to seal the 63-58 win for SF State.
The Gators will continue their four-game home stand with a 7:30pm scheduled conference game with Humboldt State this Friday, February 14 at The Swamp
