Gators Fall on Walk-Off at Sonoma State, 6-5

Carter Loud Had His Sixth Multiple-Hit Game Today, Going 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI

ROHNERT PARK---  Sonoma State rallied back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat the visiting SF State Gators 6-5 this afternoon in a CCAA match-up at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves scored twice in the ninth with Eric Ehlow's two-out single down the left field line driving in Jackson Stogner with the game-winning run. 
 
Nolan Sheridan recorded the no-decision this afternoon, pitching 6 innings of seven-hit ball, giving up four runs (three earned), striking out three and walking two.  Cory Davis (2-1) picked up the loss for SF State in relief.
 
Jackson Stogner gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in their half of the first inning as he reached base on a lead-off walk.  He advanced to second on a single by Daniel Caresio and scored when Alex Crosby reached on a Gator error.
 
SF State (12-14, 7-9 CCAA) tied the game at 1-1 in its half of the second inning.  Carter Loud had a lead-off walk and went to third on a single by Garrett Heisinger.  With one out and runners on the corner, Wes Carswell drove in Loud on a sacrifice bunt to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Gators took the lead with a three-run third inning.  Dillon Meyer and Grady Espinosa had back-to-back one-out singles.  Meyer scored on a single to right field by Mark Lindsay.  Loud drove in Espinosa with a single to right field.  The Gators took a 4-1 lead on a single by Heisinger. 
 
SF State added another run in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead.  Fernando Escobar was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the fourth inning.  He went to second on a single by Nick Jackson.  Meyer's sacrifice bunt advanced Escobar and Jackson a base.  With one out, Espinosa drove in Escobar with a ground out to give SF State the 5-1 lead.
 
Sheridan had the Seawolf bats quiet until the bottom of the sixth inning.  Garrett Schwartz walked and went on second on a one-out single by Justin Serrao.  Wesley Wallace he the first pitch he saw for a run scoring double to bring in Schwartz.  Still with one out, Steven Moen drove in Serrao with a ground out to second.  Jourdan Weiks put the Seawolves within a run of the Gators on a two-out single through the left side that brought in Wallace with the inning's third run and make the score 5-4 SF State.
 
Cory Davis came in relief for the Gators in the seventh and pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings. 
 
SF State had a chance to score an insurance run in the top of the ninth.  Lindsay had a one-out single and tried to come home on a double by Carter Loud down the left field line, but the Seawolves threw out Lindsay at home on a throw from Caresio to Weiks to Moen.  Steven Zaharias (1-1) struck out the next Gator batter to keep the score at 5-3 SF State.
 
In the Seawolf ninth, Weiks had a lead-off single and went to second on a single up the middle by Stogner.  They both advanced to second and third on a passed ball.  The Gators intentionally walked Caresio to load the bases with no outs.  Crsoby drove in Weiks with a sacrifice fly to right field.  Schwartz then flew out to left field to set up the dramatics for Ehlow.
 
Ehlow hit the sixth pitch he saw down the left field line to score Stogner and give the Seawolves the 6-5 come-from-behind victory.  This was the Seawolves' fifth walk-off win and second which Ehlow has had the game-winning hit. 
Zaharias picked up the win in relief for the Seawolves (14-9, 12-4 CCAA) as he pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and striking out one batter.
 
Weiks had three of the Seawolves' 11 hits with Caresio, Ehlow and Wallace each with two.
 
SF State had 13 hits with five Gators with two hits apiece in Jackson, Lindsay, Loud, Heisinger and Matt Vera.
 
The Gators will look to rebound from this weekend with a four-game series in Chico, Calif, against No. 11 Chico State.  The series will begin this Friday, March 28 at 6pm with a nine-inning single game at Nettleton Stadium in Chico.  It will continue with a doubleheader the next day starting at noon.  The four-game series will conclude with a single nine-inning game one week from today also at noon.
