CHICO--- Behind the pitching trio of Nick Baker, Luke Barker and Brad Lohse, the eighth ranked Chico State Wildcats swept a CCAA doubleheader from the visiting SF State Gators today 3-0 and 12-0 at Chico State's Nettleton Stadium. Chico State improves to 22-5 overall and 14-4 in the CCAA.
Nick Baker and Luke Barker combined on a five-hit shutout in the opener this afternoon as the Wildcats won 3-0. Baker (5-1) pitched 7.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits, striking out three and walking one. Barker recorded his conference leading ninth by pitching the final 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit and striking out two.
Ryan Romero (0-1) in his first start of the season pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 11 hits and three runs, striking out two and walked two.
Preston Tarter pitched the final 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and no runs while striking out two.
The Wildcats scored all the runs that they needed in the bottom of the first inning. Ryne Clark was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He scored on a two-out single through the right side by Tyler Madrid.
Chico State added two insurance runs in its half of the sixth to take a 3-0 lead.
Dylan Garcia was four-for-four to lead the Wildcat hitting attack.
Dillon Meyer paced the way for the Gators (12-16, 7-11 CCAA) with three of their five hits.
In the night cap, Brad Lohse (6-0) pitched a three-hit complete game shutout. Lohse struck out four Gators and walked just one.
Chico State scored in every inning but the sixth and seventh innings as the Wildcats took the second game 13-0.
Clark finished the night cap, 6-for-6, scoring three times and driving in a run. Clayton Gelfano had four hits for the victors while Garcia had three hits as the Wildcats had 22 hits in the game.
Three different Gators had a hit apiece in
Bryce Cherry,
Grady Espinosa and
Danny Souza.
The two teams will finish off the four-game series on Sunday, March 30 with a doubleheader starting at 11am at Chico's Nettleton Stadium.
