Clark’s Pitching Performance Not Enough As Otters Sweep Series

Starter Megan Clark thew a gem in the loss to No. 16 CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Seaside, Calif. – The SF State softball team turned to a pair of young arms on Saturday, unfortunately, the Gators could not match the strong pitching from No. 16 Cal State Monterey Bay as the Gators lost both halves of Saturday's double-header 8-0 and 1-0. 

Sophomore Jenny Obbema (1-3) took the ball for the SFSU (10-25/6-18 CCAA), after pitching a scorless first inning, she ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.  The Otters (26-5/16-4 CCAA) jumped out to a commanding lead, scoring five runs on six hits, the big hit a two-run home run to left field by third baseman Alissa Greenhaw. 

Obbema started the third inning but could not record an out and was lifted in favor of relief pitcher Courtney Dunkel who went the rest of the way.  Obbema's line, two innings pitched six hits, five runs, four earned with a walk.  Dunkel went 3.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, three runs, all earned with a walk. 

The Otters countered with Friday's game one starter Cori Reinhardt (11-3), who went the distance, scattering three hits with one walk and a strike out.

The Gators had their opportunity to score in the top of the first inning, Courtney Gravel led off the game with a doubled to right field and moved over to third were she was stranded.  Gravel finished the game 2-for-3, giving her five hits over the last two games; she also stole her fourth bag of the season.

In the nightcap Megan Clark (4-9) once again threw another beautiful game.  Going the full seven innings while scattering three hits and surrendering one unearned run in the losing performance. 

The Otters scored the deciding run in the in the bottom of the third inning when a one out-double and a pair of errors allowed starting pitcher Lindsey Clarkson to score.

The Gators could only muster three hits off of Clarkson (13-2) who went seven complete, allowed three hits, no runs with three strike outs.

Jennifer Lewis, Tori Bellin, and Gabby Reta all collected hits for the Gators in the second game.

SF State will return to action on Friday, April 4 when it travels to Turlock, Calif. to participate in the Tournament of Championships hosted by Cal State Stanislaus.
