Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State Monterey Bay scored 10 runs on 16 hits in their 10-2 road conference win over the SF State Gators (11-8, 6-3 CCAA) this afternoon at Maloney Field. Six Otters had multiple-hits in the weekend series opening win led by Kaden Kamoe who went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run to left field in the third inning.
Brian Hamm led off the game with a hits batsman and stole second. Hamm went to third on a wild pitch when then he came home on a run scoring single by Richie Johnson.
The Otters (7-13, 4-9 CCAA) added three more runs in the second and two more on Kamoe's two-run home run in third to take a 6-0 lead.
The guests added three more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to increase their lead to 10-0.
Josh Eagle (2-2) had a shutout going into the eighth inning, that's when the Gators scored both of their runs.
Joe Chedid had a lead-off walk.
Danny Souza hit a pinch hit double to left center to put runners on second and third. Chedid scored on a sacrifice fly by
Matt Vera. Then with one outs, Souza scored on a single up the middle by
Grady Espinosa to make the score 10-2 Otters.
Collin Monagle came in and pitched a scoreless ninth for Cal State Monterey Bay, to preserve the 10-2 win.
Preston Tarter (1-4) suffered the loss for the Gators while
Tyler Cobb pitched 3.2 innings of relief, giving up five hits and one run while striking out one and walking three.
Eagle pitched 7.2 innings of six-hit ball, giving up two runs, walking one and striking out four.
The two teams will continue their series tomorrow morning at 11am for a doubleheader at the Otters Sports Complex in Seaside, Calif. The series will return to Maloney Field this Sunday, March 9 at noon for the series finale.
