Cerritos – The SF State track and field team completed its long weekend, competing at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State at Cerritos College. The Gators were squared off against tough competition comprised of some of the top teams in the west. Highlighting the day was the impressive showing by the 4x100 relay team.
"We had a great trip with two competitive meets down South," said interim head coach
Tom Lyons. "Today was an opportunity to come back and get used to competing a second day. The marks from this trip were not as much an emphasis as the format of the weekend. Adding to the experience was the large number of our athletes' families who came out to support us."
The meet started with the hammer throw where
Alex Jones finished third in her heat and 38
th overall with a throw of 35.09 (115-01).
Ariana Luster placed seventh in the same heat and was 43
rd overall with a throw of 26.57 (87-02.)
In the 100m hurdles Laura Stoke placed 37
th overall with a time of 15:33,
Jordan Guerrero placed 59
th with a time of 17:45.
Kareezia Younger placed 65
th in the 400m dash, clocking in with a time of 1:01.41. Five Gators competed in the 100m dash, led by
Maya Cabiness' 18
th place finish, clocking in with a time of 12:39.
Hilary King finished 44
th with a time of 12:68, Stoke placed 74
th with a time of 13:05, behind her was
Jazmine Tyler who finished with a time of 13:17,
Marina Tucker finished 84
th with a time of 13:48.
The 4x100 relay team finished the day, placing 11
th overall with a time of 47.60, it was the third fastest time the relay team has recorded all season. The lineup for the 4x100 for the Gators was
Janesha Anthony, followed by
Maya Cabiness,
Hilary King and
Brionne Baucham.
The Gators will return to action on Friday, April 25 at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at the Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, Calif.
