Box Score POMONA, Calif.— The tenth ranked Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (24-8, 17-7 CCAA) held off a late inning rally by the visiting SF State Gators to defeat their opponents 6-3 this afternoon in the final game of this weekend's four-game conference series at Scolinos Field.
Cal Poly Pomona used a six-run sixth inning to key its series finale win over the Gators.
SF State starter,
Nolan Sheridan, held the Broncos scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Joseph Eusebio had a lead-off single. He went to second on a one-out single to right center by Steven Andrade. Nick Cooksey drew a one-out walk to load the bases for pitch-hitter Michael Zidek. Junior reliever
Cory Davis came on in relief for Sheridan.
Zidek then hit the second pitch he saw for a run scoring single to bring in Eusebio. Trevor Magno then hit the first pitch he saw from Davis for a single up the middle that brought in Andrade. A fielder's choice by Bo Walter scored Cookey to make the score 3-0. With two outs and runners on second and third, David Armendariz hit a three-run home to left center to double the Broncos' advantage to 6-0.
The score remained 6-0 Broncos until the top of the ninth inning. Gator pitch-hitters
Nick Jackson and
Dalton Pizzuti drew back to back one-out walks. They advanced a base on a wild pitch. Jackson scored on s pitch-hit single to center field by
Will Hein which Pizzuti advanced to third on. Hein then stole second base to put runners on second and third with just one out.

Mark Lindsay.
Garrett Heisinger, who had two hits on the day, singled to the pitch to put runners on the corners.
Matt Vera then walked to load the bases. Hein scored on a wild pitch with two outs to cut the Bronco lead to 6-3. Bronco reliever, Austin Boyle, induced the next Gator to ground to preserve the 6-3 victory by the hosts.
Sheridan (2-6) recorded the loss for the Gators, pitching 5.1 innings of nine-hit ball. The sophomore pitcher gave up three runs, struck out one and walked one.
Joe Chedid and
Tyler Cobb each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. They gave up three hits, struck out one and walked one in two innings of relief.
The Gators had just four hits on the day with Heisinger leading the way with two hits. Hein and
Grady Espinosa had the other two hits for the visitors.
Andy Amaro (3-0) picked up the win in relief for Cal Poly Pomona, pitching four innings, giving up no hits and one run while striking out four and walking one. Austin Boyle recorded his third save of the season by pitching 0.1 innings and walking one.
The Broncos had 15 hits on the day with three players with three hits apiece in Chris Carlson, Joseph Eusebio and Trevor Magno.
SF State (13-21, 8-16 CCAA) will return home this Friday, April 11, when the Gators begin an eight-game home stand. They will host the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles in a four-game series beginning this Friday at 3pm at Maloney Field.
