Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. –In the First Round of the MSUB Classic in Billings, Montana, it was the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (2-1) defeating the SF State Gators 1-0 at Yellowjacket Field. The Mavericks scored the match's only goal in the 51
st minute on an unassisted goal by Roy Abergil.
"We outplayed Colorado Mesa in the first half as held them to just one shot attempt," said SF State head coach
Matt Barnes. "In the second half, we did not handle their pressure at well."
The Gators had 7 shot attempts in the first half compared to their opponents one. They had the only shot on goal attempt of the first 45 minutes come off the foot of Joe Roussseau in the 43
rd minute, but the Mavericks' Brandyn Bumpas recorded the save.
In the second half, the Mavericks came out strong as Roy Abergil scored his first goal of the season from five yards off a loose ball in the in the box.
SF State (1-1) had a chance to tie the match 14 minutes later, but
Sam Merritt's shot was blocked by the Maverick defense.
Daniel Boyer had one save in goal for the Gators in his second collegiate start.
The Gators outshot the Mavericks 8-7 while Colorado Mesa held a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Sam Merritt each had two of the Gators' 8 shots on the afternoon.
The Gators will return to the pitch this Sunday, September 14 at 2pm MST for a Second Round match-up of the MSUB Classic with Colorado Christian.
