Box Score SAN FRANCISCO -- The SF State Gators and the visiting Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts played to a 1-1 double overtime tie this afternoon at SF State's Cox Stadium. With the tie, the Gators move to 3-1-1 on the season and will return to the pitch this Tuesday, September 23 at 12:30pm as they host BYU-Hawai'i.
SF State outshot the Argonauts 8-4 in the first half including 2-1 in shots on goal attempts, but the Gators could not put the ball into the net.
The Gators first shot on goal attempt came in the 29
th minute, when Jay Tsuruoka stopped
Nick Harb's attempt to give the hosts the lead. With eight minutes left in the half, Tsuruoka stopped
James Aguirre's attempt as the match went into halftime scoreless.
Notre Dame de Namur (1-3-1) took a 1-0 lead at the 53
rd minute when Alex Guillen-Torres scored his first goal of the season on a ball from Esteban Beruman.
SF State came right back and tied the match ten minutes later on
Jakob Velega's second goal of the season on a ball from
Sam Merritt.
The Gators had four chances in the final three minutes to take the lead but Tsuruoka stopped
Kevin Johnson's shot on goal attempt and
Jakob Velega,
Max Talbert and
Cody Meza's attempt all sailed wide left to send the match into overtime.
In the first overtime,
Nathan Fernandez recorded the only shot attempt in the final seconds but it sailed wide.
Notre Dame de Namur came out on fire in the second overtime, but Hunter LeBlanc's shot hit the post to keep the score tied at 1-1.
SF State had the final attempt for the game-winner, but Tsuruoka stopped Johnson's attempt in the final minute as the match played to a 1-1 draw.
Tsuruoka recorded five saves in goal for the Argonauts while
Daniel Boyer had one save in the first 45 minutes for SF State.
Colt Reichl recorded three saves in the final 65 minutes for the Gators.
