SAN FRANCISCO –The SF State Gators are off to their best start since the 2011 season when they started the season 4-2-2. The five wins in their first eight matches are the most since 2007 (5-3). The Gators are currently 5-1-2 after opening up conference play 1-0-1 this past weekend at home.
SF State will begin a four-match conference road trip this Friday, October 3 at 12:30pm in Seaside, Calif., for a match-up with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Gators will then travel north to Arcata, Calif., for a 2pm match with Humboldt State this Sunday, October 5.
The Gators are led in scoring by
Sam Merritt with 8 points (two goals and four assists) while
Jakob Velega has scored a team high three goals. Merritt leads the team with his three assists.
Kevin Johnson has scored two game-winning goals including the golden goal this past Sunday in the Gators' 3-2 overtime win over Cal State East Bay.
SF State is averaging 1.30 goals a game while the Gators are giving up 0.59 goals a game.
Daniel Boyer has posted a 0.55 goals against average with 26 saves and 3.1 shutouts.
Colt Reichl has a 0.82 goals against average with four saves and 0.5 shutouts.
Boyer is currently second in the CCAA with his 0.867 saves percentage, third with his 0.55 goals against average and tied for third with his 26 saves.
As a team, the Gators are fourth in the conference with their 0.59 goals against average. They are currently on a six match unbeaten streak, which is the longest since 1980 when the Gators had an 11 unbeaten streak and finished the season 11-4-3.
Heading into this weekend, Cal State Monterey Bay is 1-4-2 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA while Humboldt State is 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA.
