SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's basketball team will complete its four-game road trip this week, this time the Gators stay up north, taking on Chico State on Friday and Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday. Tip-off for both contests is slated for 5:30 p.m.
The Gators (0-12/0-8 CCAA) enter this weekend's contest averaging 56.8 points per game which ranks 12
th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. They are also shooting 36.3 percent from the floor going 254-for-713 which is also 12
th in the conference.
Last weekend the Gators went 0-2 falling to Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego on the road. In both those contests the Gators shot a combined 12-for-52 from three point range, including a 5-for-25 display in the loss to the Tritons.
Sophomore guard
Brittaney Allison was named the Female Gator of the Week for her inspired play last weekend. The native of Fresno, Calif., led the Gators in both points per game (10.5) and shooting percentage (50.0). In the battle against UCSD on Saturday, Allison finished with a career-high 18 points going 7-for-13 from the floor.
Freshman forward
Savannah Camp continues to impress in her rookie campaign. Camp leads the Gators in total points with 129, she is second on the team average 10.8 points per contest. Camp also leads the team averaging 4.8 rebounds per game. Her 10.8 points per game is tops among all freshman in the CCAA this season.
Chico State enters Friday's math-up with an overall record of 4-8 and are 1-7 in CCAA play and find themselves tied for ninth in the conference standings. At home, Chico State is just 1-4 on the year with their lone home win coming against Dominican in a non-conference clash on Nov. 15. Over their last five contests, Chico State is 0-for-5 coming off back-to-back home losses to Humboldt State and Cal State San Bernardino. As a team, the Wildcats average 67.6 points per game which is sixth in the CCAA and are shooting 39.1 percent which is seventh in the conference. Senior guard Hannah Womack leads the team, averaging 15.8 points per game which is fourth in the CCAA.
This will be the 91
st time the Gators and Wildcats have squared off, in a rivalry that dates back to the old Golden State Conference days. Chico State owns a 69-21 advantage in the series that dates back to Feb. 27, 1971 when the Gators lost to the host Wildcats 72-28. Last season, the Gator and Wildcats split the season series with each team winning the home contest. The last time they faced each other, Chico State defeated the Gators 67-66 at Art Acker Gymnasium.
On Saturday the Gators will make the short drive down Highway 99 to take on Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock. The Warriors enter this weekend with an overall record of 3-9 and 1-7 in CCAA play. At home the Warriors are just 1-4. Over their last five games CSUS is 1-4 with their lone win coming against Chico State on the road on Dec. 20. They have lost four-straight including back-to-back losses at home to Cal State San Bernardino and Humboldt State. As a team, CSUS is averaging 68.3 points per contest which is fifth in the conference, while shooting 36.3 percent from the floor which is 11
th. Leading the team is junior guard Jasmine Washington who averages 11.9 points per game and is shooting an impressive 41.7 percent from the field.
Saturday's contest marks the 70
th time these two teams have faced each other. The Warriors currently own a slight edge in the series, going 37-32 against SF State. The two sides squared off the first time in the 1977-78 season with the Gators defeating the Warriors 93-40. The Gators are currently riding a six-game winning streak over the Warriors having swept the season series three-straight years. The last time these two teams met up, SF State defeated CSUS 82-80 on Jan. 31, 2013 at Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock.
