SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators' men's basketball team will return home this weekend after being on the road the past two weeks. The Gators will host the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros and Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles in two conference games this Friday and Saturday, January 23 and 24. Tip-off for both games is set for 7:30pm PST at the SF State's Main Gym at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.
The Gators went 0-2 this past weekend in their two CCAA games in the valley. SF State (6-8, 4-6 CCAA) had a heartbreaker this past Friday Chico as the Gators lost 61-59 in triple overtime to Chico State. The Wildcats' Robert Duncan scored the game-winner with 1.4 seconds left in the third overtime.
Udun Osakue paced the Gators with a double-double by scoring 23 points and grabbing a season high 11 rebounds. Senior guard
Bren Haley added 12 points and four assists.
Then on Saturday in Turlock, SF State lost 68-54 to Cal State Stanislaus as the Warriors shot 60% from the field including 50% from three's in the second half. Osakue had a team high 16 points while
Derrick Brown chipped in 10 points and
Justice Howard added a season high 8 points and four rebounds.
The Gators are averaging 58.1 points per game while giving up 61.4 points per game. SF State is 10
th in the nation in scoring defense. They are out-rebounding their opponents 29.8 to 29.1 while forcing 15.1 turnovers per game. SF State is also averaging 12.1 assists, 8.3 steals and 2.6 blocked shots per game.
Osakue leads the team with his 13.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game average. He also leads the Gators with his 54% shooting from the field.
Bren Haley has a team high 61 assists and shooting a team leading 78.6% from the line while
AJ Kahlon has blocked a team best 17 shots. Leading the way with his 22 steals is
Andre Jones while he also leads the team with his 35.9% shooting from three's.
Cal State Dominguez Hills comes into Friday's game with a 4-12 overall record and a 0-10 record in the CCAA. The Toros are averaging 61.1 points per game while giving up 69.3 points per game. Ivan Dooley leads the team with his 13.6 scoring average followed by Justin Sadler's 10.4 points per game average.
Cal State L.A. comes into this weekend's games at Sonoma State and SF State with a 7-7 record including a 5-5 record in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles are averaging 60.7 points per game while giving up 63.6 points per game. LeBradford Franklin leads the team with his 10.1 scoring average.
After this weekend, the Gators will be back on the road to being the second half of the conference season. SF State will travel to San Bernardino, for a match-up with Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, January 29. The Gators defeated the Coyotes 68-53 on December 6 in San Francisco as Osakue and Brown combined for 40 points. Then on Saturday, January 31, SF State will travel to Arcata for a game with Humboldt State. The Gators defeated Humboldt State on December 5 in San Francisco, 67-58 behind
Nick Calcaterra's career high 15 points.
