@SFState_WBB Battles Best Of CCAA In Weekend Doubleheader

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's basketball team returns to the road this weekend taking on two of the best teams in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  The Gators begin the grueling road trip taking on Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday before wrapping up the weekend taking on Humboldt State who owns the top spot in the conference standings, on Saturday.  Both games are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip off and will feature live stats and video.

The Gators (0-16/0-12 CCAA) are fresh off an 0-2 weekend after falling at home against Cal State Dominguez Hill and Cal State L.A.  In both of those contests the Gators bench did an excellent job providing a lift for SF State, scoring a combined 54 points the last two games which provided 60 percent of the Gators offense.

As a team, SF State is averaging 55.1 points per game which ranks 12th in the CCAA.  As a team, they are shooting 34.3 percent from the floor, which also ranks last in the conference.  Contributing to the Gators low field goal percentage is their percentage from beyond the arc where the Gators are 87-for-349 from deep, which is a 24.9 percent.  Removing their three point numbers, the Gators field goal percentage goes up to 39.5 percent, going 243-for-614, which would be sixth in the CCAA.

Leading the team the team in scoring is senior forward Michelle Sutton.  Sutton averages 10.9 points per game which ranks tied for 21st in the CCAA.  She also boasts 68 rebounds which is second on the team and 31 assists which is second on the team.

Savannah Camp is second on the team, averaging 9.5 points per contest.  She also leads the team in rebounds.  Her 9.5 points per contest is second among all freshman in the CCAA.  Against Cal State Dominguez Hills last Friday, senior forward Kristian Juarez had a career game.  Juarez finished with a career-high 13 points, going 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-4 from three point range.  The 13 points was one shy of her point total from the 2013-14 season.

Cal State San Bernardino enters Thursday's game with an overall record of 12-4/8-4 CCAA, which puts them fourth in the conference.  They are currently receiving six votes in the USA Today Division II Coaches Top-25 poll.  As a team, they average 62.4 points per game which is 10th in the conference.  They are shooting 39.7 percent from the field which is fifth in the CCAA.  Their opponents are averaging 56.7 points per contest which is 14th best in the nation, while shooting 36.1 percent from the floor which is 30th in the country.

Forward Brianna Harden is 24th in the country with nine double-doubles on the year.  She averages 9.9 rebounds per game and is second on the team averaging 12.3 points per contest.  Alexcia Mack leads the Coyotes with 12.6 points per game which is 13th in the CCAA.

All-time the Gators are 17-21 against the Coyotes in a series that dates back to December 16, 1985 when the Gatos lost at home to CSUSB 65-54.  On the road the Gators are 5-14 all-time.  The last time these two teams squared off was on Dec. 6 when the Gators lost to the Coyotes 64-53 at home.

On Saturday, the Gators will travel to Arcata, Calif., to take on Humboldt State who enters this week with an overall record of 15-2 and 11-1 in the CCAA which has them currently atop the conference.  In the USA Today Division II Coaches Top-25 Poll they are currently ranked 25th.  As a team, they average 74.7 points per game which is second in the CCAA and 39th in the nation.  They shoot 42.1 percent from the floor which is second in the conference.  Their opponents are averaging 66.8 points per game and are shooting 37.2 percent from the field.

A'Jaee Foster leads the team averaging 13.5 points per game which ranks ninth in the conference.  Kersey Wilcox is 17th in the nation averaging 5.5 assists per game.

The Gators and Lumberjacks rivalry dates back to the 1974-75 season.  All-time, the Gators are 33-32 against the Jacks.  The last time out the Gators fell to the Jacks at home 73-57.
