@SFState_MSOC To Begin Four-Match Home Stand this Friday

SAN FRANCISCO--  The SF State Gators will return home this weekend to begin a four-match home stand.  The Gators will host Cal State L.A. this Friday, October 16 at 12:30pm and No. 7 Cal State Dominguez Hills this Sunday, October 18 at 11:30am. SF State is coming off a 0-1-1 weekend down south as the Gators are now 5-4-3 overall and 1-3-3 in the CCAA.

On Friday, the Gators gave up their most goals all season in a 3-0 loss at Cal State San Marcos.  Kevin Esquivel had three saves in the first 45 minutes while Daniel Boyer had no saves in the final 45 minutes.  SF State did outshoot the Cougars 9-6, but each team had four shots on goals. 

Then on Sunday in La Jolla, SF State posted its 7th shutout of the season with a 0-0 double overtime draw with the UC San Diego Tritons.  This is the second consecutive year that the Gators' defense has posted 7 shutouts and third time since 1998.  The scoreless tie was the third for the Gators this season as they also tied Sonoma State and Humboldt State by the same scores.  Boyer had three saves en route to his first shutout of the season in goal for the guests. 

They are currently tied for 10th in the CCAA, five points out of sixth place, with their 5-4-3 overall record and 1-3-3 record in the CCAA.  The top six teams at the end of the regular season on November 1 will receive a berth in the 2015 CCAA Soccer Championships.  The top two seeds will receive a first round bye with the third and fourth seeded teams hosting the fifth and sixth seeded teams on November 3.  The semi-finals and finals will take place on November 6 and 8 on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, Calif.

The Gators are giving 0.71 goals a game while they are scoring 0.78 goals a game.  Emmanuel Jimenez has a 0.51 goals against average in 9 matches with 37 saves and 4.5 shutouts.  Esquivel has a 1.59 goals against average and 1.5 shutouts while Boyer has a 0.00 goals against average with three saves and one shutout. Three players are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece in Sam Merritt, Armando Flores and Jakob Velega.  Merritt leads the team with his two game-winning goals and is tied with Flores with five points.  Jimenez and Ashley Watson each have a team leading two assists. 

In this week's national statistics, the Gators are sixth in saves percentage (.845), 8th in shutout percentage (0.60) and 11th in goals against average (0.71).  Jimenez is 7th in the nation with his .902 saves percentage. 
Jimenez also leads the CCAA with his saves percentage, second in goals against average, third in shutouts and tied for fifth in wins.  Merritt is tied for third in game-winning goals while the Gators as a team are second in shutouts, saves and goals against average.

The Gators will first face Cal State L.A. this Friday at 12:30pm at Cox Stadium.  The Golden Eagles are 7-2-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCAA, which places them fourth in the conference.  Troy Dumlao has a team high five goals and 10 points.  He is tied with Joshua Cortez and Herbert Biste each with two game-winning goals.  Marvin Iskra and Tobais Tobrant are tied for the team lead each with three assists.  Anthony Perez has a 0.52 goals against average in 8 matches with 18 saves and three shutouts.  Steven Barrera has seen action in four matches with a 0.27 goals against average with 13 saves and two shutouts.

At halftime of their match on Friday, the Gators will recognize professor Chris Moffatt from the Chemistry department as SF State's honorary coach. 

SF State will entertain No. 7 Cal State Dominguez Hills this Sunday at 11:30am.  The Toros will face Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday in Seaside before coming to San Francisco on Sunday.  They currently lead the conference with their 10-1-2 overall record including 5-0-2 record in the CCAA. Mike Dias leads the team with his 8 goals and 17 points while Jaime Rios has a team high five assists.  Pedro Velasquez leads the Toros with his three game-winning goals.  Chase Gentry has a 0.91 goals against average with 35 saves and three shutouts in 12 matches in goal.  Colin Smith and Benito Gonzalez also has seen time in goal this season for the Toros. 

After this weekend, the Gators will host their final two home matches of the regular season on October 23 (Cal State San Bernardino) and October 25 (Cal Poly Pomona).  Match times for both of those dates are set for 3pm and 2pm at Cox Stadium.  Prior to their match on the 25, the Gators will recognize their seniors that will be playing their final match on the pitch of Cox Stadium.
