SAN FRANCISCO– The SF State Gators will return to the pitch this weekend after two double overtime draws past weekend. The Gators will travel down south for a pair of CCAA matches in the San Diego area. They will be in San Marcos for a 3pm starting match with Cal State San Marcos this Friday, October 9. Then two days later, SF State will travel to La Jolla for a 2pm starting match with UC San Diego on Sunday, October 11.
SF State went 0-0-2 in its two home matches this past weekend against Sonoma State and Humboldt State. The Gators now have recorded six shutouts this season and they are allowing just 0.57 goals a game. Their goals against average is currently second in the conference and 22
nd in the nation. The six shutouts that the Gators have posted this season is currently tied with Stanislaus State for the league lead. They are also 10
th in the nation with their .866 saves percentage.
Sam Merritt,
Armando Flores and
Jakob Velega lead the team with their two goals apiece while Merritt and Flores are tied with a team high 5 points. Merritt also leads the team with his two game-winning goals.
Ashley Watson and
Emmanuel Jimenez each have recorded a team high two assists. Jimenez has posted a 0.51 goals against average with 37 saves and 4.5 shutouts in 9 games played.
Kevin Esquivel has posted a 0.76 goals against average with 8 saves and 1.5 shutouts in three matches.
Jimenez leads the league in saves percentage (.902), tied for second in shutouts (4) and tied for fourth in wins (5). His goals against average is 15
th in the nation and he is 8
th in saves percentage.
After recording two ties this weekend, the Gators are now 5-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the CCAA. They are 3-0-2 at home and 1-3 on the road while going 1-0 in neutral site games.
SF State will first face Cal State San Marcos this Friday in a 3pm starting match in San Marcos. This is the first year that the Cougars are a member of the CCAA. They are currently 3-5-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the CCAA after going 0-2 this weekend (1-0 loss at Cal State L.A. and a 3-0 loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills).
Louie Farfan leads the Cougars with his four goals and 8 points while Zach Olow has a team high four assists. Landon Sherwood has posted a 0.76 goals against average with 22 saves and two shutouts in 8 matches. Zach Sheppard also has seen time in goal with a 1.07 goals against average and 11 saves.
The Gators will then travel to LaJolla to face UC San Diego this Sunday at 2pm. The Tritons went 1-1 this weekend on the road with a 1-0 loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills and a 1-0 win at Cal State L.A.
Uly deLaCal leads the team with his two goals and his six points (two assists). He is tied with Riley Harbour and Zachary Lagotta with a team high two assists. Cameron McElfresh has posted a 0.86 goals against average with 29 saves and five shutouts in goal for the Tritons.
After this weekend, the Gators will return home for four of their final five matches of the regular season. They will start a four-match home stand on Friday, October 16 at 12:30pm against Cal State L.A. Then on Sunday, October 18, SF State will face No. 14 Cal State Dominguez Hills at 11:30am.
SF State will end its four-match home stand with on October 23 and 25. The Gators will face Cal State San Bernardino at 3pm on Friday, October 23 and Cal Poly Pomona at 2pm on Sunday, October 25. Prior to the match on October 25, the Gators will recognize their seniors.
