SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators will travel to Hayward, Calif., this Friday, March 6 to begin a four-game home and away series with Bay Area rival Cal State East Bay. The Gators and Pioneers will play a single nine-inning game this Friday in Hayward with first pitch scheduled for 2pm. The series will move to SF State this Saturday for a 11am starting doubleheader. The two teams will conclude the four-game series at noon in Hayward for a single nine-inning game.
The Gators are coming off a 2-2 home stand against Cal State L.A. SF State took game one on Friday 9-5 as the Gators pounded out 13 hits led by
Mark Lindsay's three.
Bryce Cherry drove in three of the Gators' 9 runs while
Jacob Lopez,
Ryan Burke and Lindsay each crossed home plate twice. Of the Gators' 13 hits, three were doubles one each by
Matt Vera, Lindsay and Cherry.
Nolan Sheridan (1-3) picked up the win in the start for the hosts.
Then on Saturday, SF State split its doubleheader with the Golden Eagles losing 7-0 and coming back to win the night cap 7-6. In game one's loss on Saturday, the Gators had five players had one hit apiece in
Chad Thurston,
Andrew Breen, Cherry, Burke and Vera.
Ryan Bohnet suffered the loss in the start for SF State.
In the night cap, the Gators rallied to defeat Cal State L.A. 7-6 as Breen drove in
Garrett Heisinger with the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Lopez had three of SF State's 8 hits and two of the Gators' 8 runs. SF State had three doubles including two by Heisinger.
Ryan Romero (2-0) picked up the win in relief while
Cory Davis recorded his second save of the season by pitching two scoreless innings of relief. Davis now has 15 for his career which places him second on the Gators' all-time career list, two away from being the all-time leader passing Joey Diaz's 16.
On Sunday in the series finale, SF State had a late inning rally fall short in its 5-4 loss to the Golden Eagles. The Gators were down 4-0 heading into the ninth with one out, when they started their rally. SF State cut the deficit to 5-4 and had runners on first and second with two outs when the Golden Eagles induced the final out on a line-out to left field. SF State (4-10, 3-5 CCAA) had 12 hits on the day led by Lindsay's three.
Fernando Escobar and Cherry each had two hits.
For the season, Cherry leads the team with his .368 batting average, .553 slugging percentage and .385 on-base percentage along with 5 doubles. Lopez and Lindsay each are batting over .300 too at .321 and .320 respectively.

Jacob Lopez leads the team with his 7 runs batted in and 7 runs scored along with his three stolen bases while
Mark Lindsay has a team leading 16 hits.
Ryan Romero leads the Gators' pitching staff with his two wins with
Cory Davis leading the way with his two saves, 13 strikeouts and 6 appearances.
Nolan Sheridan has pitched in 24 innings in his four starts.
Cal State East Bay comes into the four-game series with the Gators with a 4-8 record including a 1-7 record in the CCAA. The Pioneers went 1-3 against No. 17 UC San Diego this past weekend in Hayward. Dakota Conners leads the way with his .387 batting average and .486 on-base percentage along with his five stolen bases. Marcus Williams has a team leading 13 hits, 12 runs scored and is tied with Nick Perez each with three doubles. Chris Porter has driven in a team leading 12 runs. Porter also leads the team with his three home runs and .679 slugging percentage.
Alex Vesia has a team low 2.25 earned run aveage with Justin Harr recording a team high 11 strikeouts. Vesia is one of four pitcher with one win each and also has pitched in a team high 16 innings.
After this weekend, the Gators will be off until the weekend of March 20-22 when they travel to Carson for a four-game series with Cal State Dominguez Hills. SF State will return home the following weekend to begin a four-game series on March 27 at 3pm against Cal State Stanislaus.
