SAN FRANCISCO— After being on the road for the last two straight weeks, the San Francisco State Gators will return home this weekend to host UC San Diego and Cal State San Marcos in a pair of CCAA matches at Cox Stadium. The Gators has a five-match winning streak at home as they are 5-1 at Cox Stadium this season.
San Francisco State comes into this weekend with a 6-4 overall record including a 3-3 record in CCAA matches. The Gators are coming off a 1-1 weekend down in Los Angeles. They lost 1-0 at Cal State Dominguez Hills this past Friday afternoon in Carson when the Toros scored in the 32
nd minute.
Emmanuel Jimenez had four saves in goal for the Gators while
Richard Leon recorded five of their 12 shot attempts.
Then on Sunday morning, the Gators rebounded with a 1-0 defeat at No 12 Cal State L.A. when Leon connected on a long ball from Jimenez for the game-winner with just 8 seconds left in regulation. Jimenez recorded four saves en route to his 4.5 shutout of the season. With the win, the Gators snapped their four-match losing streak.
The Gators are in a tie for fifth place with 9 points with Cal State L.A. in the CCAA standings. The top six teams at the end of the regular season in the CCAA will receive a berth to the CCAA Soccer Championships which begin on November 1. The top two seeds will receive a First Round bye with the third and fourth seeded teams hosting the First Round on November 1. The semi-final and finals will take place on November 4 and 6 in Turlock, Calif., on the campus of Stanislaus State.
Going into this weekend, the Gators have scored 13 goals and recorded 11 assists in their first 10 matches with Leon leading the way with four goals and three game-winning goals. He is also tied with
Ranier Plantinos for the team lead with 8 points. Plantinos is also tied with
Jonny Villeda and
Jordan Wusstig for the team lead with two assists. Jimenez has posted a 0.60 goals against average with 25 saves and 4.5 shutouts.
San Francisco State will first host UC San Diego this Friday, October 7 at 3pm. The Tritons come into this weekend's matches with a 7-1-2 overall record and a 2-1-1 conference mark. They are tied for 8
th place with Cal State San Marcos for 8
TH place with 7 points in the CCAA.
UC San Diego went 1-0-1 last weekend tying Sonoma State 0-0 and defeating Humboldt State 1-0 in overtime. The Tritons have scored 15 goals and recorded 16 assists in their first 10 matches. Sam Palano leads the way with his four goals and 12 points. Malek Bashti has a team leading five assists. Cameron McElfresh leads UC San Diego with his 0.29 goals against average, 25 saves and 6.5 shutouts in goal.
The Gators will then host Cal State San Marcos this Sunday, October 9 at 2pm. The Cougars enter this week with a 3-3-1 overall record and a 2-1-1 record in the CCAA. They will travel to Cal State Monterey Bay this Friday for a match with the Otters. Cal State San Marcos is tied for 8
th place with UC San Diego for 8
th place.
Cal State San Marcos went 1-1 this past weekend at home defeating Humboldt State 5-0 and losing 2-1 to Sonoma State. The Cougars have scored 11 goals with 8 assists this season. Bryan Morrison leads the way with his three goals and 6 points while Zach Olow and Jacob Cintas each have a team leading two assists. Juatin Tesar leads the Cougars with his 1.11 goals against average, 32 saves and three shutouts.
After this weekend, the Gators will have their final road trip of the 2016 regular season. San Francisco State will travel to Humboldt State and Sonoma State for a pair of CCAA matches on October 14 and 16. Their final road match will be on October 24 at UC Santa Cruz for a non-conference affair. The Gators will host their final two matches of the regular season on October 27 and 29 when Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State comes to Cox Stadium.
