SAN FRANCISCO--- The SF State Gators will return home for seven of the next nine games beginning with their conference game this Wednesday, April 20 at 3pm against Cal State East Bay. After Wednesday's game, the Gators will have a home-away series with the Stanislaus State Warriors.
SF State comes into this week with a 16-17 overall record including a 9-13 conference record. The Gators, under the direction of first-year head coach
Tony Schifano, are 5-5 in their last 10 games after going 0-3 in three one-run ball games this weekend at UC San Diego. They are in fifth place in the CCAA North Division, 2.5 games out of fourth place (Sonoma State) and 4.5 games out of third place (Cal State East Bay). The top three teams in each of the two divisions will receive a bid to the CCAA Baseball Championships, May 11-14, at the Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, Calif.
The Gators lost three one-run games this past weekend at UC San Diego (6-5 in 11 innings, 8-7 and 3-2).
Dalton Pizzuti,
Chad Thurston and
Noeh Martinez each batted .500 with Pizzuti going 5-for-10 and driving in four runs leads the way for the Gators. The junior catcher/designated hitter hit a three-run home run, his first of his collegiate career.
Andrew Breen also hit his first collegiate home run, a two-run inside the park home run in game two on Saturday.
Ryan Bohnet had three strikeouts and walked no one in the Gators' 3-2 loss on Sunday, in his first start in under a month for SF State. Four Gator pitchers did not give an earned run in
Brent Montgomery (2.1 innings pitched),
Dylan Bell (1.2 innings pitched),
Alex Navarrete (1.0 innings pitched) and
Shane Martin (0.1 innings pitched).
Heading into this week, the Gators are batting .271 as a team and have a team earned run average of 4.04. Three Gators are batting over .300 in
Myles Franklin (.379),
Bryce Brooks (.335) and
Logan Marston (.306). Franklin also leads the team with his .534 slugging percentage, .468 on-base percentage, 9 doubles, 26 runs scored, 18 runs batted in and two triples.
Chris Nicholson has a team high four home runs while
Bryce Brooks leads the team with his 41 hits and
Nick Jackson has stolen a team leading 13 bases.
Ryan Bohnet leads the Gators' pitchers with his 2.97 earned run average and 28 strikeouts. Montgomery has recorded a team leading four victories while
Peter Reyes has a team high two saves.
In the CCAA statistics report that was released this morning, five Gators are in the top ten in nine categories. Franklin is 7
th in batting average, 8
th in slugging percentage and on-base percentage, 10
th in stolen bases and tied for 10
th in triples. Jackson is tied for fourth in stolen bases and tied for 7
th in sacrifice hits while
Jake Faulkner is tied for 6
th in hit by pitches and Nicholson is tied for 9
th in home runs. Montgomery's four wins ties him for 10
th.
The Gators will host the Pioneers this Wednesday at 3pm at Maloney Field in a make-up date from earlier this season. The two teams have split their earlier season meetings, Cal State East Bay won 7-5 in Hayward on March 23 and SF State won 14-3 on March 30 in San Francisco. The Pioneers are 22-14 overall and 13-12 in the CCAA after sweeping a three-game road series from Cal State San Bernardino. They are in place in the CCAA North.
Cal State East Bay is batting .319 as a team and has posted a 4.82 earned run average. Rudy Navarro leads the team with his .409 batting average, 32 runs scored, 56 hits, 13 doubles, 30 runs batted in and .504 slugging percentage. Chris Porter has hit a team leading four home runs while Raymond Jones has a team high three triples. Michael Thomas leads the Pioneers with his 12 stolen bases and Jones also leads the squad with his .495 on-base percentage. Alex Vesia has a team low 2.92 earned run average with a team leading 44 strikeouts. Donavon Ramirez has a team leading four victories and Derek Oetken has recorded a team high 7 saves. The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the four-game series on May 3 at 3pm in Hayward.
SF State will then face Stanislaus State in a home-away series this weekend, April 22-24. The two teams will start the series in Turlock this Friday, April 22 with a single game at 3pm. The series will then move to SF State for a noon starting doubleheader (nine and seven inning games) this Saturday, April 23. The two teams will play the fourth and final game this Sunday, April 24 at noon in Turlock.
The Warriors are 18-18 overall and 9-15 in the CCAA after going 4-6 in their last 10 games including between swept at Cal State Dominguez Hills this past weekend. They have a team batting average of .273 with a team earned run average of 4.97. Aldo Koutsoyanopu and Gino Franceschetti each have batted a team high .333. Patrick Mulry leads the Warriors with his 32 runs scored, 49 hits, 7 doubles and 28 runs batted in. He is tied with Charlie Gaff for a team leading 9 stolen bases. Nick Molina leads the Warriors with his 10 doubles and Nick Molina has hit a team leading three triples.
Jordan Kron leads the Warriors' pitchers with his 2.70 earned run average, and 6-4 record while Nick Voumard has struck out a team leading 51 batters. Micah Hall has recorded three of the Warriors' four saves.
After their game on Sunday, SF State will return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 26 for a 2pm non-conference game with Hawai'i-Hilo at Maloney Field.
