@SFState_MSOC Looks To Continue Winning Ways on the Road this Week

Emmanuel Serrano Will Begin a Four-Match Road Trip this Weekend in Southern California

SAN FRANCISCO--  The San Francisco State Gators will look to extend their five-match winning streak this weekend as they begin a season long four-match road trip.  The Gators will face Cal Poly Pomona, who is currently 23rd in the nation, this Friday, September 23 at 4:30pm in Pomona.  Then this Sunday, September 25, San Francisco State will travel to San Bernardino to face Cal State San Bernardino at 11:30am.

San Francisco State has won its last five matches in a row since starting the season with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss.  The Gators opened up CCAA play this past week with two home wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Chico State.  Richard Leon scored the golden goal this past Wednesday just 56 seconds into the first overtime period to give the Gators a 3-2 win over Cal State Monterey Bay. Prior to Leon's golden goal, Sam Gebremiche and Ranier Plantinos scored the Gators' first two goals with Francisco Saucedo and Ashley Watson each recording assists. 

The Gators came back on Friday with a 1-0 win over Chico State as Ashley Watson scored the game-winning goal with less a minute left in regulation on a rebound off a shot by Jordan WusstigEmmanuel Jimenez and Kyle Harmina had a combined 3 saves in goal for the Gators. With the two wins, the Gators improved to 5-1 overall including 2-0 in the CCAA.  The five-match winning streak is the longest in San Francisco State men's soccer history since the 1979 season when the Gators won nine in a row. 

The Gators, under the direction of first-year head coach Javier Ayala-Hil, are one of four teams that started the conference season 2-0.  Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills also started its conference seasons 2-0.  San Francisco State is averaging 2.00 goals a game while giving up .50 goals a game including posting four shutouts.  Ranier Plantinos and Richard Leon lead the team each with three goals apiece.  Plantinos also is tied for the team lead in assists with two with Jonny Villeda and Jordan Wusstig.  The junior forward also leads the team with his 8 points with Leon recording a team high two game-winning goals. Emmanuel Jimenez has posted a 0.51 goals against average with 13 saves and 3.5 shutouts in six matches played in goal for the Gators. 

In the recent CCAA statistics report that was released today, the Gators lead the conference in shutout percentage (0.67) and is second in goals against average (0.49) and scoring offense (two goals a game).  They are also third in assists per game, points per game, saves percentage and total points.  Leon is second in game-winning goals and Jimenez is second in goals against average. 

The Gators will first travel to Pomona this Friday for a 4:30pm starting conference match with Cal Poly Pomona.  The Broncos are 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 after winning four of their last five matches including blanking Humboldt State 1-0 on the road this past Sunday in Arcata.  Sergi Monso leads the way for the Broncos with his 6 goals (one assist) for 13 points.  Jordan Jackmon leads the team with his three assists.  Jason Trejos has posted a 0.60 goals against average in goal for the Broncos with 6 shutouts and 26 saves. 

After Friday afternoon's match in Pomona, the Gators will travel to San Bernardino on Sunday morning for an 11:30am starting match with Cal State San Bernardino.  The Coyotes are 4-1 overall and 2-0 after taking a pair of 1-0 wins at Humboldt State and Sonoma State this past weekend.  Diego Casillas and Ken Ponce leads the Coyotes each with their two goals while five different players have recorded at least one assist.  Jacob Huber has posted a 0.80 goals against average with 19 saves and three shutouts in goal for Cal State San Bernardino.

San Francisco State will continue its four-match road trip on September 30 and October 2 for a pair of CCAA matches at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A..  The Gators will not return home until October 7, when they host UC San Diego at 3pm.
