SAN FRANCISCO--  The San Francisco State Gators will finish off their season long four-match road trip this weekend with a pair of CCAA matches in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.  The Gators will travel to Carson, Calif., this Friday afternoon for a 4:30pm match with Cal State Dominguez Hills.  They will then finish off their road trip on Sunday, October 2 with an 11:30am match at Cal State L.A.

The Gators, under the direction of first-year head coach Javier Ayala-Hil, are coming off a 0-2 weekend as they had their five-match winning streak snapped.  San Francisco State lost two 1-0 matches at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.  This was the Gators' longest winning streak since 1979 when they won 9 matches in a row.

San Francisco State is now 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA, which puts them in a three-way tie for fourth place with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.  The top six teams in the conference at the end of the regular season makes the 2016 CCAA Soccer Championships.  The top two seeds receive a first round bye, which is set for November 1.  The semi-final and final matches are set for November 4 and 6 in Turlock, Calif., on the campus of Stanislaus State.

The Gators started this past weekend with a 1-0 loss at the defending National Champion runner-ups, Cal Poly Pomona Broncos, this past Friday.  Kevin Martinez scored on a free kick from 22 yards out in the 33rd minute in what proved to be the game-winner for the hosts.  Emmanuel Jimenez had three saves in goal for the guests, who had 6 shot attempts including two on goal (one each by KJ Ahlo and Emmanuel Serrano). 
San Francisco State then lost 1-0 at Cal State San Bernardino this past Sunday afternoon when the Coyotes connected on a penalty kick in the 7th minute off the foot of Diego Casillas.  The Gators held a 4-2 shot on goal advantage with one each coming from Jesse Rodriguez, Richard Leon, Ranier Plantinos and KJ Ahlo.  Jimenez recorded one save in goal for the Gators.

For the season, the Gators have scored 12 goals in their first 8 matches and have 10 assists.  Plantinos and Leon lead the way each with three goals and 8 points.  Jonny Villeda, Jordan Wusstig and Plantinos each have recorded a team high two assists.  Leon also leads the Gators with his two game-winning goals. Jimenez has posted a 0.62 goals against average with 3.5 shutouts and 17 saves in 8 matches and 714 minutes.  Kyle Harmina has one save in 14 minutes of action in goal for the Gators.

In the recent CCAA statistics report that was released this morning, six players are in the top 10 in 6 categories.  Leon is tied for second with game-winning goals while he is tied with Plantinos for sixth in goals scored.  Plantinos is tied for sixth in points and is tied with Wusstig and Villeda in assists. Jimenez is fourth in goals against average and tied for fourth in shutouts.

The Gators will first travel to Carson, Calif., this Friday afternoon for a 4:30pm match with Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros are 5-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA after going 1-1 this past week in their non-conference matches.  They started their week with a 2-1 win over Concordia-Irvine.  Then on Saturday afternoon, they were blanked 3-0 in a non-conference match at Cal State L.A. 

For the season, the Toros have scored 15 goals and recorded 13 assists in their first 8 matches.  Joey Chica leads the way with his 7 goals, three goals and 17 points.  He is one of five Toros in have scored a game-winning goal this season.  Chase Gentry has posted a 1.57 goals against average in six matches with 36 saves while Benito Gonzalez has a 0.50 goals against average with 11 saves in two matches.

Cal State L.A. enters its match this Friday with Cal State Monterey Bay with a 4-0-3 overall record and a 2-0CCAA record.  The Golden Eagles are 13th in the most recent NSCAA/NCAA Division II National Poll that was released last Tuesday.  They defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0 in their only match last, which was a non-conference match.  The match with the Gators is set for Sunday at 11:30am.

Coming in this weekend, the Golden Eagles have scored 15 goals and recorded 12 assists. Steven Eberle leads the way with his four goals with Samuel Croucher recorded a team high two assists.  Tim Klefich has a team leading two game-winning goals. Steven Barrera and Dan Arnoll have shared time in goal this season.  Barrera has a 0.00 goals against average in four matches while recording 7 saves.  Arnoll has a 1.42 goals against average with 8 saves in four matches.

After their match on Sunday, the Gators will return home for a pair of CCAA matches on October 7 and 9 against UC San Diego and Cal State San Marcos.
