@SFState_WBB Takes On Cal State San Marcos Down South

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State women's basketball team heads back on the road this week, they take on Cal State San Marcos on Thursday at The Sports Center.  The game will feature live stats and live video, tip-off is scheduled for a 5:0 p.m. start time. 
 
The Gators enter Thursday's contest with a 2-16 record, in the CCAA they are 0-11 and on the road SF State is 0-8.  As a team, the Gators are averaging 52.9 points per game and shooting 34.9 percent from the field.  Their opponents are averaging 63.2 points per game and shooting 40.5 percent from the floor.
 
 
Last week, the Gators went 0-2, falling to Cal State San Bernardino 72-38 on Wednesday before losing a close one against Sonoma State 54-41 on Saturday at home.  Against the Seawolves, the Gators rallied back from 13 down with less than three minutes when they cut the deficit to three when the final buzzer sounded. 
 

 
GAME NOTES
 
Double-Double Times Two
Against the Seawolves on Saturday, the Gators had two players record a double-double in the same contest.  Kaitlin DaDalt scored a team-high 15 while grabbing 11 boards, while teammate Donae Moguel added 10 points and 11 boards.  It is the first time since former Gators Katie Batlin and Lauren Varney recorded a double-double against UC San Diego on Jan. 18, 2014.  
 
Gators Don't Get Blocked
Through 18 games this season, the Gators have been blocked just 29 times.  Their opponents are averaging 1.6 blocks per contest.  On the flipside, SF State is averaging 3.4 blocks per contest which is second in the CCAA. 
 
Who Is Hot
Senior guard Felicia Villarruel is heating up for the Gators.  Against the Seawolves, Villarruel dropped a season-high 13 points against the Gator's rival.  She did so without her characteristic 3-point barrage.  Villarruel was a perfect 8-for-8 against Sonoma State from the charity stripe. 
 
Getting It Done From 15-Feet
Against Sonoma State last Saturday, the Gators shot an astounding 83.3 percent from the free throw line on Saturday, going 20-for-24.  Both the 83.3 percent and the 20 made free throws were season-bests for SF State.  The previous high for both came in the loss against Fresno Pacific when the Gators were 18-for-22 from the line, for an 81.8 mark.

Cal State San Marcos enters this week's contest with an overall record of 9-8 in the CCAA they are 6-6.  At the friendly confines they are 4-5.  CSUSM went 1-1 last week, falling to UC San Diego 84-60 before defeating Cal State San Bernardino 65-61 to wrap up the week.  As a team, Cal State San Marcos is averaging 63.2 points per game, while shooting 34.3 percent from the field.  Their opponents are averaging 67.0 points per game and shooting 38.1 percent from the floor.
 
Who To Watch
The Cougars are being led by a familiar face.  Former Gator, Savannah Camp is leading the team, averaging 13.1 points per game.  Camp is shooting 32.2 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from 3-point range.  She's also averaging a team-high 5.8 rebounds per contest.  Against UC San Diego last week, she scored a team-high 18 points against the Tritons.  
 
Series Versus The Cougars
All-time the Gators are 1-0 against Cal State San Marcos.  The two sides met for the first time last season when the Gators narrowly defeated the Cougars 50-48 in overtime at the Swamp on Feb. 11, 2016.
