SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State wrestling team split a pair of matches on Friday afternoon versus No. 11 California Baptist and Simon Fraser.
No. 11 California Baptist (8-8/1-1 RMAC) d. SF State (4-10/1-1 RMAC) 30-15
The Gators fell behind 6-0 early after the first two matchups of the day, 149 and 157. In the 165,
Tyson Kuahine picked up the Gators' first three points with a 6-4 victory over Dominic Kincaid . However, SF State trailed 21-3 through six matchups after the nationally-ranked Lancers recorded three consecutive technical falls.
Matt Gamble picked up six points for SF State with a pin in the 125 weight class. Nathan Cervante picked up another six points at 133 thanks to a forfeit but Peter Cunningham recorded one more technical fall for the Lancers over
Joshua Villaflor at 141.
SF State (5-10) d. Simon Fraser (3-10) 39-9
The Gators dominated the short-handed Clan with the first 27 points of the match.
Joshua Weinberg earned the first three points with a 12-8 decision over Taber Spray at 149. A pair of forfeits made it 15-0, then
Jesse Lyga narrowly defeated Reid Watkins 3-2 in the 174 weight class.
Johnathon Costa picked up a 6-4 victory at 197 to make it 27-0. SFU's only wins came at 285 and 133.
