ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — San Francisco State men's soccer players
Ranier Plantinos and
Aydan Bowers have been named to the D2CCA Men's Soccer All-West Region Second Team.
The All-CCAA First Team forward had a breakout senior season with his team-high 12 goals, which are second most in a single season in program history. The San Mateo, California native appeared in all 19 of the Gators' matches, starting 18, and logging 1483 minutes. The forward scored a hat trick on Sept. 8 in a 4-3 non-conference win over Holy Names. His dozen goals were second in the CCAA and 26th across all of NCAA Division II this season. Plantinos' .63 goals per game, 1.42 points per game were second most among CCAA players, while his 27 total points and four game-winners were third-most among CCAA players. He was named Gator of the Week three times.
The All-CCAA First Team defender started 17 matches for the Gators and ranked second on the team with 1552 minutes played. The
Murrieta, California native tallied three goals and three assists. He scored two game-winners, in a 2-1 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay and with a header in a 1-0 victory over Sonoma State that secured the Gators' playoff berth.
San Francisco State finished the 2017 campaign with a 12-5-2 mark. The Gators matched the program's best start in school history with a 5-0 start and, on the final day of the regular season, clinched a postseason berth for the first time since 1978. SF State won its quarterfinals match 1-0 at No. 13 UC San Diego and fell to Cal Poly Pomona in the CCAA Championships Semifinals.
The Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
