Sam Alnassiri is ranked as the No. 11 wrestler in his weight class.
Just named RMAC Wrestler of the Week, Alnassiri has amassed an 11-7 overall record. He went 3-1 at the UNK Midwest Duals and powered the Gators to a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents, No. 7 Colorado State University-Pueblo and No. 23 Lindenwood. He won his first bout of the day by major decision, 18-4, over Cody Johnson (No. 7 CSU-Pueblo) and followed that up with a 9-6 win over Jacob Feldman of Colorado Mines. Alnassiri lost a close 2-1 to No. 6 Caleb Cotter of Central Oklahoma and rebounded with his biggest win of the weekend. The Gators trailed No. 23 Lindenwood 20-16 and it came down to the heavyweight bout. Alnassiri battled then-No. 11 Jacob Borgmeyer and applied the pin at 6:19 for the win in the bout and the dual. Borgmeyer slipped to No. 12 in the latest rankings.
Next up, SF State (4-4) will head to No. 9 California Baptist (5-4) on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. CBU has announced a move to NCAA Division I, which will soon leave the Gators as the only NCAA Division II wresting program in California.
